Hi everyone  ,
I am a new owner and am getting my bunny on my birthday!:littlecake:woohoo ! I was wondering along with fresh veggies what type of hay I should feed to a rabbit? I was also wondering if i should provide pellets too. If so what type/brand?
Thanks!

Pellets and hay are both important alfalfa hay for babies and Timothy over 6 months old. Pellets are best when they don't have all the extra treats and colorful bits in them. Plain pellets are best. Make sure you try veggies one at a time to make sure your bun does not get an upset tummy.

Agree with La Rissa. Plain pellets are definitely better than ones with all the different bits in it. Also timothy hay is needed as well. Bunnies need to constantly eat to keep their digestive system constantly going.

When you pick up your new bunny, you should get a supply of food with her. If not, ask what your bunny has been fed, stick with that for a bit, and then gradually change over to the pellets you want to feed.

With anything bunny, slow is the best way to go.

Wishing you all the luck. Hope you post pics of your new bunny. And wishing you a Happy Birthday from the Z-Tribe.

The diet should be hay & alfalfa pellets only [no veggies] until maybe 3 months old. Then introduce veggies one at a time & starting with a small piece a day, to prevent diarrhea. Transition to timothy pellets once the rabbit stops growing.

At the suggestion of my vet, my six month old bun is eating Oxbow timothy hay and young rabbit pellets. He said to feed her according to the instructions on the pellets so she gets unlimited hay and pellets. The most important thing for a young rabbit is a mix of alfalfa and timothy.

Veggies aren't necessary and should be avoided before six months. Mine just started regularly getting a veggie dinner.
