The last time that I fed Emma pellets, she wound up with a serious stasis issue (likely the resultof several factors at the time). Sadly, ample amounts of hay and 1-1.5 C. of leafy greens/day don't seem to keep herat her ideal weight.

I'm scared at the thought of giving her pellets again, after her hospitalization ordeal (something that we literally can't afford again, especially since Zoe's had one, too).

Someone advised me to slowly re-introduce pellets to Emma's diet, working her up to no more than 2 Tbp. daily. Still, after her stasis/hospital ordeal, I now worry about Mycotoxins and her possibly not getting enough fiber as a result of eating pellets.

Any sage advice? (And do you agree with 2 Tbs. of pellets for a 3-lb. bun?)

Thank you,

Jenk

The last time you fed her pellets what was the ammount, and along with how much greens/hay?

As for the slow re-intro of pellets, I'd have to assume thats in addition to her hay and greens, not as a single source of food. If you're worried about weight loss the slow addition of some pellets shouldn't be a major issue if blended in with her staple diet of hay and veggies.

The important point is to give her what she needs without offering too much at once, in order to keep her from over doing it and causing her system more/additional damage.

I started by addinga few pellets daily for a week. I eventually worked upto1/16 - 1/8 C. daily, in addition to her hay and greens.)

She only ate pellets for 4-6 weeks (I can't recall exactly)--until she had stasis.

Oh, definitely. She'll always have hay and greens. I'd never feed pellets solely.

My regular vet's colleague told me thata bun should have the bare minimum of pellets required to retain a healthy weight. (She's actually against the use of pellets but admits that some bunners can't seem to hold a solid weight without at least some of them.)

I'm guessing thatthe 1/16 - 1/8C. was too much for Emma's system. But since she's had more than one poop/stasis issue, I'm also scared about feeding her pellets at all. It's a stressful Catch-22 for me.
