Peaches is going for a fixin' on the 17th of September - Lately I've been letting him out of his cage and he loves to dig in the blankets - thing is - now he's there for a few minutes and I get a handful of pellets all over the blanket - he's event started to pee in the blanket too. When I soak up the pee and put it in his litterbox under the grate, he tries to lick it or chew the paper - he seems to really like the smell/taste of his pee and will nose through the blanket like an obsessed person - not paying attention to other things around him. Normally he pees in the corner of his litter into those pellets so maybe he can't smell it as much. Lately it's gotten really bad, I put a small fleece blanket in front of his litter (so that he slips less when he tries to jump down) and he'll sit or lie on there but he'll also poop there too - a lot of poop - I tell him "poop in here" as I pour the poop into his litter. His blanket is covered in white fur (better on the blanket than anywhere else I guess) but I'm wondering if he thinks any soft surface is made for pooping?

I wanted to get some of those foam puzzle pieces for the bottom of his cage cuz even the glued flooring is pretty slippery for him and he does move quite fast - I was wondering if they tend to chew those? He does chew his blanket a bit (I've found holes) but so far he hasn't chewed through the whole blanket yet. I'm hesitant to do that if he's going to poop all over and if he chews it I don't want him to choke on the pieces. Lately he's been chewing (not sure if he's eating too) a phone book that I left for him as well as a cardboard box.

I can only hope the peeing and bad litter habits will stop once he gets fixed - cuz he'll scatter the poop outside his cage so it goes all over the floor...

Many bunnies like to use soft blankets as bathrooms, so he's not alone there. I would try removing the blanket and any other absorbent materials that aren't in the litterbox and see if that helps. Neutering will also help, but even the most litter trained buns will often scatter a few poops outside of the litter box.

I can't use blankets with one of my buns. She goes to the bathroom on it and eats it. But she doesn't do it with carpet so I use carpet in her caged area. The fuzzier the blanket, the more she eats it and pees on it. I am not sure what her issue is with blankets but I just stopped trying to use them.

My other rabbit just ignores a blanket. I think it just depends on the rabbit and is just a trial and error thing to find out what your rabbit will eat and go the bathroom on and what he will do best with.
