Someone who adopted from me e-mailed me tonight to give me an update on the bunny. They had one question though that i don't really know an answer to. The bunny they adopted is a neutered male dwarf and i guess he keeps peeing over the side of his litter box. She is using a small cat litter box, just one of the square ones. What do you guys think she can do to get him to stop and actually pee in the litter box?

Yeh our main one`s like the above maybe a little lower at the front but i think that picture maybe makes the edges look higher than they are? Our boy bun when he pees sits and lifts his tail and rear end up a bit ,but he`s never had a problem with this type of tray, maybe your buns like mine and does`nt like to completely sit while peeing and preferring to crouch a little? George is also a neutered dwarf bun

The size of the litter box matters a great deal, especially if you clean the litter box about twice a week like I do. When it starts to get full, the bun will "misfire". You want to get a box that is about the same length as the bun when he is fully stretched out. I get the biggest cat litter box I can find.

Inside, are they putting too much stuff? Just a inch thick of whatever litter they are using or a inch thick of old newspapers, with a big handful of hay (fresh handful at least daily). Anything more and the bun might push things around into a big mound, then sit on the mound and urinate over the edge. A high back on the litter box definitely helps, but it's the total size of the box inside that will help the bunny get more comfy inside.

My boy bunny used to have this problem when he had a cat litter box. He would sometimes be fine but sometimes pee over the side. It has not happened since I started using a different kind of box, which is a cheap storage container with curved edges. I'm not sure why this has helped but it definitely did!

So maybe suggest that they try different types of boxes...
