Ive been having this issue with Gizmo since before he was neutered, it doesn't happen all the time and I am unsure what is causing it, he will lift his tail and pee outside of his litter pan mostly when he's in his cage but has done it outside his cage as well. He is litter trained as he does not poo and pee everywhere mostly in his pan and he has pooed near it but not much, I am a little curious as to why he does this, I asked the vet prior to his neuter and she mentioned that he could be a tall pee-er and to maybe buy something to surround the litter box to avoid messes but his cage will not accommodate anything else as it is not big enough. Ive tried finding a larger litter box but I'm not sure if that would solve the issue since he won't always do it, I was wondering if this could be a urinary issue and what could possibly be done about it? nothing has changed since we've moved here from the other apt in september, he has run of some of the apt but not a large portion and he uses his litter pan outside of the cage just fine:?

have u actually SEEN him pee outside the box or does it dribble over the edge of the box when hes in it?

if he dribbles over the edge i use deeper potty boxes for my high peepee ers(??)
some boys think they gotta stand on their tiptoes and pee....not sure why...

if u actually watched him go potty outside the box and he doesnt normally do this ..then yea it could be time to see the vet....
if he has done this for a long time then maybe u just need to add another poop box until he gets it right ,then u can remove it later when he realizes that the peepee goes in the peepee box...:big wink:

[align=center]Sounds like what my dutchie was doing (if I'm interpretating this right!).

He would pee right over the edge- like he wanted to pee more in the corner...

I just got a bigger litterbox (biggest cat-litterbox they had at Target) and started putting less litter in the litterbox so he can't stand tall enough to pee over the edge.. it's completely stopped since then.

If that's not the problem, then I'm not sure... =O...

Yes I've actually seen him lift his tail as though he was backing into a corner and pee, the potty he's got now is a jumbo corner pan with a grate on it so he can't eat the litter, that is another issue i have since we use a corn based cat litter ( World's best cat litter). I have also tried another pan ( a square high back without a grate ) and he would sometimes turn backward and do the same thing. Maybe a cat litter box would be better:? as far as litter goes I have not been able to find something cheap and safe at the same time and I live in Ontario, Canada:ponder: I have already heard of the wood stove pellets but am unsure where to look for them up here.

Lots of bunnies have issues with corner boxes because they try to pee somewhere other than the corner and end up peeing right over the edge. Get a rectangular cat litter box with higher sides and I think you'll have better luck.
