If anyone out there in the RO expanse can help me, I'd much appreciate it.

Our company has gotten to the point in its growth where I must start researching our payroll requirements and how to get one started.

Can anyone direct me to a good source to learn how to do this? I've always worked places that already had payroll in place...I've never started one from the ground up. I did find this article, but I'm not sure if it's got enough information.

Can you guys direct me toward good resources where I can learn this? We don't want to just pay a payroll company, we want to be able to do it ourselves.

Much thanks!

Get a big wooden table and pass the money to people, in cash, under it. This is how it's done *nod nod* :p

...seriously though, no idea xD

LOL...I have a big ol' 6' table that we use for D&D...will that work? Hehe...

I recommend QuickBooks it the program we use to do it ourselves. I know how to add & edit but I have not set it up from the ground up...it's very user friendly though.

Yep! Got Quickbooks already (have had it for about a year, and have been using it for all accounting functions EXCEPT for payroll, since we haven't yet needed that function, hehe)...so maybe that'll show me how to do this??

Have you got MYOB there? (Mind Your Own Business)

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but the people on the TV ads always looks hapy and successful :p.

Well - you can't do any worse than the company I worked for just did (well....maybe you can).

I woke up and checked my pay statement (I work out of my home) and found out I had earned almost double what I thought I'd earned.

I was like, 'Hmm.....'...

Got an email from our team lead saying, "Payroll is looking into everyone's paychecks on a case by case basis..".

I got this letter a couple of hours ago:

The corporate payroll department would like to inform you of an error that impacted the paycheck you received today for the time worked from October 28, 2007 through November 10, 2007 (pay date today, November 16, 2007).

A processing error resulted in the double payment of all hours worked from November 4 – November 10, 2007 (the second week of the payroll).

In addition, if your last name begins with the letter A through G, the processing error resulted in the double payment of all hours worked from October 28 – November 3, 2007 (the first week of payroll). If your last name begins with letter H – Z, the October 28 – November 3 payroll hours were paid correctly.

So ... it looks like they doubled my hours for both weeks by mistake and this next paycheck will be reduced by about 46 hours (meaning I won't get much since I work about 25 hours per week and have 5 hours per week in coaching sessions).

My point?

I'm sure whatever system you use - you won't screw up like this!

Oh WOW...that's BAD...

I have to say that in the years I've been doing payroll (about seven years now), I have never made that mistake, lol!!

I mean, sure, I've been DOING payroll...but it's a whole different story when you're STARTING your OWN payroll system...ya know?

I think Quickbooks will help me the most...don't know why I didn't think of that sooner! LOL!!

Hugs!
