As my title says: Little Papaya chewed off Kiwi's whiskers!!!

They are not bonded yet, so this was through my bunny barrier made up of NIC cubes. She just let him do it!

My three questions are:

1) Will Kiwi be ok without whiskers?

2) Will her whiskers grow back?

3)Why would Papaya do this? I thought he was just grooming her face!!!

:(

sorry for laughing, but I'm a little amused that she just sat there and let him!

I assume they'll grow back, dunno what the repercussions of not having any for a bit will be or why papaya did that, though :(

I know it's funny! I just feel bad for Kiwi. She's whiskerless :( I think she was so desperate to have her face loved she just sat there. It honestly
looked like he was licking her face. She still misses her Citrus, and he passed in April :(

Can anyone comment on the after effects on having no whiskers? Will they grow back?

I don't see why they wouldn't grow back. My cats lose whiskers every so often and they always grow back. In fact when I got one of my cats from a rescue place that kept the cats in cages all his whiskers where gone from getting caught in bars. They came back.

Whiskers are basically feelers so they can judge if they can make it into a hole or space. She should be ok.

She'll be fine :D When my buns molt they lose their whiskers too. You can see big thick ones on the floor sometimes. Big Bunny grooms Pip's face all the time and he has definitely succeeded in munching some off as well! I think he just is a ferocious groomer. I've heard of bunnies getting bald spots because their friends grooms so much in one spot.

Now if he starts biting anything else.....

I've heard that, Alfa rabbits tend to cut off other rabbits whiskers to show who's more dominant in the group and that it's their form of heirarchy.

I'm so glad to hear that they will grow back! I can totally see Papaya being the dominant one in this relationship. With Citrus and kiwi, Citrus was the dominant one so I guess Kiwi is just a submissive bunny when it comes to her boys!

I've let them out together a couple times after Papayas neuter (he was just done on Thursday) and he still have his male
hormones which I knew would be the case, but no fighting, just humping by Papaya so I stopped that and grooming.

Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll be able to bond them!

You do know that a male can get a female pregnant almost a month after neutering right? Is Kiwi spayed? I have a friend that has a lot of rabbits missing chunks of fur from over grouming. Some rabbits will just groum the others until there is no fur left on them. The wiskers will grow back. It just might take a little while.

Of course Kiwi is spayed :) She was spayed about 9 months ago :)

Kiwi isn't missing any fur, just her whiskers! I will keep an eye on them when they are together. It's too early to try and bond as Papaya still has him hormones! I wish they would hurry up and leave!
