I was so proud of myself, I built a play area with grids, two tall and 11 long to attach to his crate so he can have more space to run around till the snip snip. Put scamper in and left room came back in about 10 minutes and he was out and had been on the bed :pssd: Ok he must have been jumping on his cage and then over. Decided to try something else I put the grid around the bed about a foot or so away from the bed. Went downstairs and in a little bid heard thumping went upstairs to check on him. He was thumping because he wanted out he was inside the enclosure with the bed. I looked at the X pen pictures and they all seem to be 2 high. Do I just have a very good jumper is this normal? Does anyone else have to have them three high so their bunny cant clear it. Thanks:biggrin2:

2 high is only like 24in right? you'll need at least 3 tall with nothing near the sides to aid escape :)

2 nic pannels high... at 14" each is 28" high. Most bunnys can easily jump this height.... Especially if theres something there for them to jump on.

When I use x-pens I either use a lid on my 24" pens or I use my 36" pens inside no lid.

My 4.5lb bunny "Zoom-zoom" can easily jump out of a 2-panel high NIC enclosure, or a 30" X-Pen for that matter (with plenty of room to spare).

I have a 36" X-Pen, and I'm not confident even that height will contain him if he really gets determined to get out (considering how easily he cleared the 30"). It has so far, but I have caught him rummaging around on the kitchen counter more than once, and that counter is 36" high.

I'd like to get a 42" for outside play-time, but that height always seems to be the most expensive for some reason. When I bought my 36" it was 50% less than the 42" and even the 48" was cheaper.

I'm considering making my own enclosure for outside play-time out of cage wire. The wire comes in 24" x 15' rolls and has 1x1" openings. If I go for 40" height (technically 39" since I'll lose a little each cut), I'd get 4.5 panels out of each roll. So 2 rolls would be 8 full panels + 2 half panels, which will make a nice door (total of 9 24x39 panels for the pen).

Cost would be

Hmmm.. what happened to the rest of my post?

Anyway... cost would be less than $20 for the wire (+ some cage clips). Wouldn't be as sturdy as a real X-Pen, but it should be fine for containing the Zoomer while he's out mowing the lawn.

Guess I need to get some more zip ties and get back to work. Nice to hear there are other jumpers out there. There must be a lot of bunnies that don't even attempt to go over based on the number of 2 grid pens :)

Yea, my friend, Kristine has a bunny the same size as the Zoomer, and she uses a 30" Midwest Ex-Pen to contain him. He is quite a determined escape artist, so I'm surprised he hasn't figured out that he could just jump over.

I guess Zoom-zoom is just smarter than Chewy. :ponder:

and some can climb over any barricade. Had a netherland, a mini, and a full sized lop that all could get over a 48 inch wire barricade. It did stop all the others. May want to do some surveillance first. Had to put tops on everything to keep those three toads out. I now have a nice flow-through hammock.

I just finished adding the 3rd panel to my play pen. We will see I'm pretty sure he can't jump it I hope I don't have a climber on my hands but he is determined to keep marking the bed. Little sucker even bit me again when I was cleaning up his marking poos on the bed.

Cube panels, or and Ex-Pen?

I would think and Ex-Pen would be very difficult to climb, due to the wide horizontal bar spacing. Cubes I can believe, since the wires are so close together.
