So Jessi was given
Torbugesic 1/2 cc three times a day for three days. Then two extra days worth for JIC they told me to give that if needed.

But I have been doing research on it and I am realizing that it does not last very long.

I do have Metacam from Storms neuter but its a year and a half old.
I don't know the dosing because the sticker fell off.

So is this ok for her? The meds she was given?

I really can't go back and get more tell Monday. They are closed tomorrow. So I will have to get some in the morning from the shelter. If I need something different is needed.

Usually metacam only lasts 6 mo after it's first mixed up.

When given orally, butorphanol is usually dosed every 8-12 hours, so they gave good instructions for you. It doesn't last long when given IV or sub-Q, but via the oral route, it is absorbed into the body more slowly and thus eliminated more slowly too, and lasts longer.

My experience with Torb is that it is a very effective drug that doesn't last very long in rabbits no matter what the route of administration is. I prefer Buprenorphine which I have seen last up to 12 hours. But it appears there is a shortage of Buprenorphine and it is just becoming more readily available now. An acceptable alternative is Tramadol which is very effective and is a fraction of the cost of the other drugs. Both Buprenorphine and Tramadol can be used with Metacam.

So am I able to give her another dose before we go to bed? She was given a dose at 5 PM it is now 9:30 and she is coming out of that groggy state.

How long between doses? They said three times a day. And a dose today when we got home but I am afraid of her being in pain tonight.

Can you wait until 11? If someone is awake 18 hours, then 3x a day is every 6 hrs. 10 might be ok.

I may make it tell 10 30. I will give her a little smaller dose cause she wont get another dose tell around 8 am anyway.

She seems fine right now. She is a DBF right now.
