My lionhead Louie has a bald spot on his back that is getting larger. It doesn't look irritated or red. I had no idea what was causing it but lately I've noticed that everytime his friends Bernie and Rosie groom him they go right for that spot. Rosie always seems to groom them aggressively and I'm thinking that she's causing the bald spot. I was thinking of taking him to the vet to make sure that it's not a parasite or anything but I figured if it was then Bernie and Rosie would be affected too. What do you think?

p.s Louie has a large bald spot under his mane but he's had that since he was a baby and Rosie has it too.The new bald spot ison his back.

humm, well it is entirely possible that it is a result of overgrooming, but at the same time, there is no way to be 100% sure. A vet trip might be a good idea, although from what I remember, skin scrapings also are not 100%? I would say vet is a safe bet to be completely thorough.

Hopefully someone has some other ideas, but go with your gut.

when i bought some spray to make tony stop chewing on the baseboards, i got this stuff that is made to go on the animal's fur to stop them from chewing/licking an irritated place. it's called "bio-groom bitter taste fast acting chewstop spray," and its active ingredient is denatonium benzoate (the active ingredient in bitrex). this stuff is made to be sprayed on the fur, so if it were a real problem you could get this stuff and spray it on louis so his friends wouldn't lick him so much.

That's really interesting. What could be wrong with him that would make Rosie groomhim baldon his back? Actually it's high up on his back near his neck. I'm nervous now. They don't go outside or come in contact with other animals so I don't know how he would catch anything. I'll keep an eye on it.
