Well, it's the neighbor's dog, but it's justlike she's ours. She comes inside our house, we buy her toys andtreats, we babysit her, and she hangs out with us all the time. When wemoved here in August to this little country town, we made instantfriends with our neighbors Misty and Shane, and their 4 boys (2, 6, 10,and 15) and their 10 year old daughter Emily.
Many have seen me talk about the little boston terrier named "KK", andhave seen pictures of her and Harper together. Well... she's gone.
Shane and his boys were out in the yard this evening around 3pm playingwith some homemade rockets. They were shooting them in the air and theboys would race and catch the parachutes. I was on the tractor cuttingthe lawn and my parents were doing some gardening. KK was runningaround and we were all keeping an eye on her.
A little while later, I didn't see her. I called Emily (the 10 year olddaughter) over and I said, "Emily, where's KK?" she goes, "Oh, shefollowed daddy in the house and stayed there." I said okay and wentback to mowing. A little while later, I saw KK again and assumed shehad followed Shane back out since they were in an out getting stuff forthe rockets.
Around 5:30, I was getting done in the yard and I didn't see KK yetagain. And she usually follows me everywhere, especially when I'mheaded to pick up the tractor, but this time she wasn't behind me. Thistime my mother didn't see her either and walked over to Emily and askedher where KK was this time. She said KK had went back into the house.
We picked up out stuff and went inside about 6pm. Shane and the kidswent inside around the same time. At 6:15, Shane comes knocking on thedoor. I answer and he goes, "Okay, don't panic." (Don't you hatesentences that start like that?) I said, "I'm calm if you are." Hesays, "Is KK in the house with you?" I said no, she didn't come insidewith me tonight, why? he said she wasn't in the house and was missing.I told him to go check under furniture and I was going to get myparents and a jacket.
He didn't come back and 2 minutes later we found him and the boys outside on 4 wheelers and flashlights.KK was gone.
After checking both houses thoroughly, she wasn't there. They allhopped on 4 wheelers, we grabbed flashlights and my parents took off onfoot while I sped away in the truck up and down the crop fields andother side streets. No sign of her. Within 45 minutes, the street waslined with people and 4-wheelers screaming "KK! Come here KK!" KK nevercame.
Misty gets home after getting the phone call and is in complete panicand joins the search. By 8:30 and no sign and I am now losing my voicefrom screaming, I told Misty and Shane I was going to make some flyersand was going out tonight to hang them. Which I did. In the postoffice, grocery store windows, dollar stores, city hall, fire dept.,street lamps, ect. I put Misty's number and our number, hopefullysomeone calls.
KK never runs off, never has. Somewhere along the line, someone must'vepicked her up. One bad trait is she'll usually go up to anyone if youhave a treat or a 'sweet' voice. We're all freaking out, and this is ontop of all my worry with Chance. I just hope our beloved KK is returnedsafely. Prayers please, they are really needed.
