Scamper tried to take a chunk out of my hand tonight when I was cleaning his cage. I held him still and told him bad bunny and my daughter says I thought we weren't supposed to scold Scamper.

So how can I teach him not to bite me?

He ended up biting me 2 more times before I was finished :grumpy: I had moved his cage to change the rug under it and clean behind it I was standing where the cage normally would be bent over picking up a poop ball and he charged up on me an bit my hand drawing blood. I wasn't expecting that:pssd:

The pee and poop on my daughters bed and having to strip it every day and make it every night is one thing but he could have really hurt my little girl

This is very normal behavior for a teenage and it will go away when he is snipped. You can count on that. You need to put Scamper somewhere else when you clean his cage until after he is neutered. Rabbits are twice as territorial as cats and very protective of anything they see as belonging to them, even poop.... This behavior will stop when he is fixed. So sorry he bit you though.... Bad Scamper.

I have never understood their protectiveness over poop. All of my buns are fixed but they still get defensive when I clean the litter box (thump, grumpy posture, dig in the trash bag if I don't shoo them). I'm very glad they have never bit though. I guess it's the degree of difference hormones make. Perhaps to them we are trying to take their territory away since they mark it in poop?

I also have no idea why a rabbit wants to keep its poop so bad. Fraggles gets fussy when I clean her corners but I have never been bitten. I am sure Scamper will stop biting once the hormones are gone though.

I tried to get a picture of it but it didn't turn out that great. This a.m. I heard my daughter scream at the top of her lungs. When I got in the room she was hysterical and between sniffles said S Sss Scamper flung pee in my face :tears2:. I got her cleaned up and off to school I felt so bad for her but later when I told the story it was so funny . I'll just never let her know, poor girl.

Ouch that does not look pretty. I hate to say this but I started laughing over Scampers "antics" with your daughter. Why is Scamper loose in her room at that time if I may ask? Did you explain to your daugter that Scamper just loves her soooooo much?

It does look sore. I agree just as soon as a vet says go, I would get the little monster snipped. Male bunnies are particularly bad for spraying and nipping when un neutered. I have had one bit me in the leg until I was one top of my bed screaming for Len to come and rescue me. I have planned on not having him ( Bailey - english spotted ) neutered, but soon changed my mind. The change in some male rabbits even within a short period of time is miraclous. I would make sure that he is locked some other place when cleaning his box, maybe do not leave him unattended in your daughter's room for awhile. If he is scenting her bed, peeing on her and biting - she is his choosen .

Holding his head down and saying 'no!' is fine.

It's always a good idea to let him out when you're reaching in to his space, or distract him with a treat.

What kind of housing do you have for him?

sas :clover:

The same thing happened to me last week when I was trying to clean Buster's poo. Sometimes he wakes up grumpy. He is also a teenager that is not neutered, so that could be the reason. When he bit me I held down his shoulders and said 'NO'. He seemed to feel bad. Since then, I started to give him food and a toy so he is distracted and won't care if I'm cleaning his area out. It has been working so far... :)

Layla doesn't give a flying poo about me picking up her poops. But she does chin-mark some things. She's coming up on 4 months, so I'm expecting some teenage behaviors to pop up soon enough. Her worst behavior is digging at carpet but if I "thump" she stops and runs off. I gave her free-roam of the main area of the apartment for over an hour and she didn't leave a stray poop ANYWHERE.. I was very impressed!

I've been sprayed by a bunny, and while I didn't appreciate it, I knew it was a sign of affection. I hope your daughter can see that too!

And ouch, your hand looks like a painful bite. Keep it clean! I've never been bit that badly by rabbits (and I've grabbed feral ones off the ground to catch them)..

Hm, you know it time for neutering when...

Sorry you got bit and your daughter got peed on. He must really like your daughter!! I would not let him in there if he's consistently peeing and pooping in there :/ You probably have enough to do in the run of a day than to have to deal with daily sheet washing.

Scamper has a rabbit cage looks like a dog crate has two doors on the front. He is her bunny and lives in her room which is the only room that's rabbit proofed. He was having breakfast and running around in her room when she was getting ready for school. She seems to have gotten over her trauma from earlier today. The thumb is still a little sore, I can't believe he bit me that hard. My husband said he would have been pissed off too if I moved his house, guess that makes sense.
