My Oreo had a face full of hay! I put the nest box in on the 4th and she's due on the 6th.. is her doing this a sign I should put the box in early? I dont want her to dirty it!

Aw i love momma hay whisker pictures :) looks like she is ready for a box! I would go ahead and give one to her

Sorry I don't have an educated reply, but that is SO crazy cute!!!
Good luck with everything :)

okie dokie.. i'm going to put the nest in there right now! if she pees/poops will it ruin it? or can I just take it out and clean it.. its a wood box.

OMG! Too cute!!! I just love that part of the nest building! And then when they start ripping out hair. Just a few more days now, and you'll see baby Oreos. :)

If shes gathering hay she shouldnt pee or poo in it but if she does then yes clean and disinfect the box. After babies are born we also take out any soiled hay or materials. Cant wait to see pictures of oreos little ones :)

She pooped cecotropes..so I disinfected. Put it back in...left the house for a good 5hrs..no poop or pee, yay! So once babies are born I should clean the cage daily? I am soooo excited and so is hubby surprisingly!

Love that hay face. Patiently waiting to see it on Luna one day.

Can't wait to see healthy Mini Oreos.

I'm not sure cleaning the cage daily is necessary. If she's a first time mom I'd minimize how much you do in the cage each day. It can make first-timer's nervous. After the kits are born make sure the hay and hair in the box are clean and then maybe once a week you can take out any damp hay and put some fresh in.

Gotcha, just make sure the nest is always clean, i can do that!

I wont mess with her too too much, want to keep her happy and comfortable.

I have a bit of a dilemma. On Friday we got a puppy! Unexpected, but I just couldnt say no. I tried to train puppy out of a crate and its not working. So I had to move Oreo from her dog crate into her old cage (she was actually happy!!! and went to her fav spot in that cage right away) The issue i'm having is size. After putting the nestbox in there I am not happy AT ALL with the amount of space she has. This is a My Super Pet Large size cage. I have 2. I want to put them together for a good size cage. I have no idea what I could use to bond the plastics together. The wire is easy peasy, its the bottom that is worrying me. I'll be working on this tonight. Wish me luck!
