Oprah Bunfree built a nest in her new nesting box :D
We are finishing insulating today, so that will help keep the heat in for the little buggers, the heating lamp doesn't really feel like it's making a difference, unless you are right underneath it :/

So hopefully insulating some more will help!

I'm so excited!

I'm going to be a grandma!
:panic:

Oprah Bunfree is my black EL doe incase anyone didn't know lol
Checkout my site for a pic of her and daddy :)

We heated the barn and insulated it, so hopefully it makes a difference, it's a little warmer than outside.

She built a nest in her nesting box and she has a chopped up old, warm sweater, lots of dryer lint, papertowels lining the bottom and the hay she made the nest with.

Hopefully all goes well.

She is due Febuary 4th but she might have them earlier.

Cool :)I'm so glad your dad let you heat the barn where they're at. And he helped.(hehe)I hope her babies make it. I'll be watching for an update :biggrin2:

April, if you stand under the heating lamp it makes a difference, otherwise it's not all that warm =/ We are fixing the windows up tommorow and finishing insulating and blocking off the hay loft.

But definitley keep checking back!

I've heard people talk about moving the babies inside at night. You could also look into animal safe heating pads for the hutch.

I have done this... you can pull the nestbox inside if the doe is tolerant... I would put the box in with the doe, let her nurse and then bring it in, and bring it back out again and lunch and dinner time...

Juno was not happy about me pulling the box so she and her cage came into my mudroom but her three remaining kits are plump and plush. It is 3 degrees Fahrenheit here so kits don't have a chance.

Good luck Oprah Bunfree!

I'm sure that the kits will be fine. It sounds like you've done a lot of prep work. And if the nest box is under a heat lamp and they can't move too far from it then I'm sure they'll be cozy and warm.

We finished insulating today, it is ALOT warmer.
The heating lamp actually hangs in the middle of my little shed, so it's not right over the babies lol But they will get warmth.

I lined the bottom of the nesting boxes with dryer lint aswell!
