My type 1 diabetes track looks more like the Himalaya Mountains than a road in a flat area...

The nurse practictioner added an injectable drug called Simlyn... apparently the body uses multiple chemicals inbreakdown of glucose- insulin isthe big one and then they have found "amlyn" (not sure I spelled it right) helps with how quickly you digest (if you dump too much sugar into the bloodstream, the blood glucose goes awry).

Apparently, the NP said it levels after meal blood sugars out andmay even help me losesome of the weight I have been trying to ditch. I have to watch for low blood sugars...

This all in addition to the changes they made to the pump settings.

Sounds like it might help quite a bit. My sister is insulin resistant and her sugars are horrible.

Initial dose and insulin changes did not work...I am still running in the 200s so I upped the Simlyn and will check next week once a pattern comes out.

Yes - folks at work know when I am running low as I turn gray - if the numbers are high, I am flushed. I have been dragging myself about as the rollercoaster of blood glucose is tiring and I am at the busiest time of the school year for me.

The sugars started stabilizing this afternoon - running at 109-121...A/C was on at work (it is near 80 here today) so I did not have a chance to get flushed.

At home, I do not have air...we open windows on the west side of the house and on the east side and hope the breeze blows through... :)

WOW! When my sugar runs just even a bit high (like 114) I can tell - and I get SO tired. When it's low, I get all shakey. I had low blood sugar spells first. A few years ago I was fasting for Good Friday - nothing to eat, only water until that evening and I had a piece of cake at my sister's house..... I passed out! The cake caused the insulin to kick in and I was already lower..... She took my sugar as I was waking up and it was 70. She thought I was diabetic - she is - but I was hypoglycemic/pre-metabolic. It's controlled as long as I watch it and take my low dose of advandamet.

The bf also has type 1. Do you input the amount of carbs you eat into your pump? He does that and never seems to get too high (although he does get too low sometimes as he forgets to eat often).

Amylin digests amylose, a different kind of sugar than glucose.

I do - I have an older pump that has the Bolus Wizard and the doc has been playing with the sensitivity levels now - 70 was not enough...60 was not enough, 50 would give me the ups and downs and now they have me at 55.

I have a little carb book I carry with me everywhere so I can program it correctly. What I don't understand is why my numbers are all over the board, even if I eat the same thing, same carbs...same time of day.

Thanks for the clarification on the amylin - I was not sure what it was going after but it is FINALLY starting to work - my numbers are coming down at the next click up on the pen (doc said to up it a click), and bonus - I am not as hungry as I normally am. If this carries me through the fall when I naturally crave carbs and put on the winter 10 that I always have done since I was 12, things are going to be really, really good.
