I live on a farm. I shovel horse poop. I hav rabbits poppin' out babies every few days. So tell me why oh why it was deemed necessary that Ig et fake nails for my wedding?!?!

Anyways, they're starting to grow out, I can't do crap! Which rives me nuts! I want to work! I can't type, I can't grab stuff! And I tried to tattoo a bunny today but the nails were just int he way! ( I have a rabbitatt)

I was told if I soak them in acitone the glue would die and I'd be able to pry the darn things off. Yeah tried that. All it did was take off my nail polish, eat my skin alive (omg it burned so bad) and I ruined my measuring cup.

Any suggestions for getting these things off?

*sob*

Have you checked the drug stores in the beauty section for a removal kit? I think Sally Hansen or one of those big nail names may have a kit for removing them.

The other option is to buy a couple nail files and file them short and thin them out. You'll have to get a really rough nail file or it will take forever. Thinning them down may help with the awkardness.

Go back to where you had them put on and get them to take them off for you. It may cost about $10.00.

You do dissolve them soaking your hands in acetone, then you have to file them away once they start dissolving.

If you can't get hold of acetone normal nail varnish remover will work but it will take longer.

How long did you steeped them for?

I seepedt hem for like 3-4 minues, and then my skin was on fire, and the glue wasn't even loose.

I would go back to the nail place but my friend took me there andtreated me asa weding gift since she was getting hers done too, they people that own the shop are friends of hers, so its likethe only place her family goest o get nail work done and it's actually like an hour from me. I'm not willign ot travel that faarrrr.

Would any ol' nail place take them off or does it have to be the place that put them on?

Any place will take them off for you. Do you live near a Walmart, you should go there and buy this kit wiith different types of tips that you can then file the nails off. It runs on batteries. I'll take a picture of it so you know what I'm talking about. Give me 5 minutes. LOL

i'm a qualified nail technician and in my opinion the best way to remove them is to either:

a) visit your local chemist/drug store and purchase a product that is specifically for removal of acrylic nails. it usually comes in dip form and is partly made of acetone to basically break down the acrylic and make it much easier to remove them. straight acetone is far too harsh (as you said, it burns the skin) but acrylic nail removal products are designed to remove the artifical nail with the right amount of acetone without damaging your skin or natural nails.

b) admit defeat and visit a nail technician/beauty therapist and have them professionally removed.

if you try to remove them without using one of the above options, you risk badly damaging your natural nails and causing infection by lifting your own natural nail by mistake, andthis can cause alot of pain! it could also prevent you from having acrylic nails applied in the future until your natural nails are back in good health.

your other option, rather than removal, is to gently file down the backfil yourself (area where the acrylic nail is growing out and the line between that and the new growth of your natural nail lies) so that the growth is less visible. you could also disguise it with a nice nail colour :)

good luck!

I use these on my nails in between going to the manicurist. Like girlzilla sais you can file down the back fill.

eeeek JAK, that sounds painful! although acrylic nails look absolutely gorgeous, they are very impractical for anyone who plans on using their hands for anything lol. i had them once when i first started doing nails then quickly realised they are a real pain for anyone not used to long nails. even when cut short, the upkeep is costly. i just stick to doing a french manicure when i want my nails to look spiffy. much easier to remove!
