My mum was out this evening so I cooked myself dinner.Big mistake! I am doing a cooking course but I am useless at cooking!

I desided to make a white mushroom sauce for my pasta, But the 'white' sauce turned grey :?and it was way too thick.

But even worse STUPID me ate it anyway!

I feel dreadul now! I thought food poisoning took 6 hours to kick in! I only ate it an hour ago!

Does anybody know why the sauce went grey???!!!! (I did wash/wipe the mushrooms before I started)

I used oil and butter to cook/fry the mushrooms, flour, and milk for the sauce.

The mushrooms were sitting in the fridge open for about 4 days so I hope they werent bad or anything :?They didnt look it.

Oh, no. I'm sorry you're sick.

Sometimes heavy sauces make me sick, too. I think it's the combination of the oil and flour that I can't tolerate.

I hope you feel better soon!

When my Mom tried to make mushroom sauce, it turned a nice umm.... earth tone (no offense to her). What I do to prevent that from happening is dry-saute them before adding to the sauce. The way you do that is chop your mushrooms, and throw 'em in a frying pan with a little bit of butter. cover, and cook them on low to medium heat until the juice comes out of the mushrooms, then uncover and simmer until most of the juice is gone. Add finished product to the sauce/soup/whatever. This method of cooking also preserves most of the nutrients in the mushrooms, and works well for soups since the juice helps to add flavor.

Feeling better today? :hug1

Aww great! Thankz for your help.

I am feeling much better today. I dont know why I did feel ill, my cooking must be really bad lol.

I spoke to another student at college today who is more experienced in cooking and he said that the sauce will turn a off colour of white if you add mushrooms to it. But I arent sure why it went so thick as I followed the recipe exactly.

Im sure if i experiement on making it again I will find out why! :DThankz
