Idk if this is normal I've never had a rabbit neutered. But its been a day he keeps laying down on his side and he looks like he is in pain. I know he is probably cause I know I would be. But he lays on his side and lays his head down then will get up and eat some hay and drink then lay back down. Right now he's got his back legs twisted so hes not laying on the cut area and his front end is turned right side up looking around the room. Is he just in pain? Is there anything I can do for my baby. :( I'm so nervous about everything this lil bun does lol. I love him so much.

Edit: I called his name and he looked up at me so Idk. I think he's in pain. :((

It's a good sign that he's eating and drinking. I'm sure there has to be discomfort after surgery. I've never been with a bunny after surgery so I don't know what's normal. Maybe you can call the vet tomorrow morning and request pain medication. I have read that aspirin can be given to rabbits but you have to be very careful of the dosage. I don't know if it's recommended on this site. You might check the Library or do a web search.

My heart goes out to you and your sweet bunny. I know it is so hard to think they're in pain. Sending love and prayers your way. May he be up and binkieing very soon.

If I'm correct bunnies are usually perched and tucked in when they are in pain. If he is eating and drinking normally I wouldn't worry too much. Hope all goes well!

It takes a while for the anestesia to get out of their system and they can do sort of goofy things the first 24 hours. As long as he is eating and drinking don't worry about him laying funny, he's just trying to get comfortable. The boys bounce back very quickly.

If he huddles in a corner grinding his teeth or stops eating/drinking then you need to call the vet. If you have some metacam on hand you can give him a dose in the morning.

My Bun Bun was fixed Wednesday. They kept him 24 hours and sent me home with pain medication for the next day. Said to keep him in a small cage resting for three days and no litter. No hopping, jumping or running until stitches come out. He's been laying sprawled out like that, too. If he's eating, pering and pooping he's okay. Keep us posted!!!
