I left my bunnies out last night and they got to an eraser my boyfriend had stored on a lower level of a bookshelf with his drawing supplies. I have no idea if just one of them ate part of the eraser, or both, but unfortunately, they ate quite a bit (not just a little nibble). Apart from monitoring their appetite, intake and output, and general energy level, what else can I do?

Was it rubber or vinyl?

Gus has a taste for all things rubbery. Such a turd.

I wouldn't worry too much. Erasers are non-toxic, so the worst that could happen is a blockage. Though I think that'd be unlikely unless they somehow managed to ingest the eraser whole. For now, I'd push hay and water and just monitor them. If you notice any significant digestive slowdown or lethargy, a vet visit may be in order for an x-ray.

Hope that helps!

It was vinyl, according to the label on the eraser.

Thank you Rue, that's very reassuring; I'm very worried!

Gus definitely prefers vinyl to rubber. Hasn't managed to eat a whole eraser, but I once found one with well-rounded edges under the kitchen table (where the boys had been doing their homework). Not sure how long he'd been snacking on it, but I never noticed any signs of digestive upset.

We have to watch him around rubber bands and plastic twist ties, too. We had a carpet at our old place he used to chew on. Sucked up carpet fibres like they were spaghetti noodles! Nothing more fun than chasing a rabbit, pinning him down and trying to extricate plastic/rubber/carpet bits from his mouth without getting chomped on. :p

Gus sounds like Flip-flop... I had a ball "bunny-sitting" her, trying to make sure my house didn't come apart at the seams. She was wonderful, but naughty, naughty, naughty.

These two have been stellar apart from the eraser chewing incident, so I got lulled into a sense of false security.

Hopefully all will be well with them.

He seems to go through stages. He'll be so naughty for a few weeks, then mellow out again and be the perfect house bun, then back to being naughty again for a few weeks. Wash, rinse, repeat. I don't know what provokes it, but it can be frustrating at times! :p

I'm sure your two will be fine. Just keep an eye on them. And make sure you train that boyfriend to put his stuff up! ;)

Rue: I can't really remember, but I think Flip Flop was just constantly naughty. Very sweet and happy, but constantly a bad, bad bunneh. Loved her still, though! A lot. I always smile when I think of her. She was also incredibly smart.

I'm keeping a watchful eye on my bunnies... not much more I can do at this point, any way unless they start showing serious problems.

This is just as much my fault as my boyfriend's; I should have put them away in their X pen overnight, but I fell asleep early and slept late. Maybe it's their way of telling me to get up sooner? :p

Rue it sounds like you are having difficulty dealing with that Gorgeous Gus. If you send him to me I will be able to break him of these habits:grumpy: he has of chewing things he is not suppose to be chewing.:pssd:

And since Simon and Olive live out that way too they may as well come for a visit too.:rollseyes:lookaround I'll retrain them all with the help of my Sweet Little Daisy Mae.

Wouldn't that be the road trip of a lifetime!
