I attented my orientation today and am now an official volunteer for the Halifax Humane Society!
I was very happy to learn at my orientation; that no animals are euthanizedexcept if they are ill or otherwise unadoptable. Animals at this shelter have no time limit. Wheew...I'm relieved to hear this.
I'm very excited about being able to work with the rabbits. Since I signed up a few weeks ago, one bunny has been adopted and there is another one pending adoption. Fortunately, they don't get a lot of rabbits in this shelter. They only have 4-6 at any one time, so this should be an easy task. I'll be certain to post pictures of my little charges. I'm so excited aboutstarting my volunteer work!
There was one rabbit, Gee Whiz, a cute little brown lop, that I was petting today. Everytime I stopped, he would thump at me. Too cute! Another favorite is a BEW lop that needs a lot of socialization. She is so pretty, but unless I can get her to be friendlier, she will have a hard time finding a home. I look forward to the challenge.
