Are oats a good idea? What do they provide thebun??? When can i feed the Kits oats? How much for the Kits? What kind? The kind you get at Wal Mart, Quaker Oats???

LOL, lots of questions i know, please answer though, lol.

Thanks,

Ellie and the Buns

Yes! I finally beat Pam to answering.. but myanswer might not be as good as hers. I feed my rabbits Rolled Oatsoccasionally. I think that you may also feed Steamed Oats but QuickOats aren't a good idea (Something about expanding or something, am Iright????) Oats are pretty high in energy and when fed shortly before ashow they can induce a molt, but I feed mine starting about a monthbefore and it seems to help fill them out a bit more and put on a nicecoat. Black Oil Sunflower seeds can also help with the coat condition.

Lol! YAY! I'm funny!:phehe...

I just wanted to add that I start giving my little ones oats when theystart coming out of the nesting box (about 3 1/2 weeks). It's prettyeasy on their stomachs and they sure seem to enjoy it.

Where do you get rolled oats? I've only seen the quakerquick oat variety. Also why are the quick oats bad?
The Quaker Old Fashoined oats are the rolled oatsI give my buns.

I have on occasion given them the "Quick Oats" unintentionally (Hey ! the containers look almost the same!).

IMO ....it's an urban myth about the quick or instant oats beingbad.....had something to do with them expanding in the bunnie's tum.Same basis as the dried fruit expanding with water...I think not.

The quick oats just appear to be chopped up to a finerconsistancy....probably to allow for shorter cooking time. Makessense....right??

Correct -- the quick oats are a finer cut, so they absorb water faster.
