I bought two bags of oat hay and 1 bag of botanical hay (which smells heavenly) and the bunnies don't seem to like the oat hay. Tome it's mostly yellow/gold and there are some greenish pieces and some orange strands as well. I found some pod pieces - which the bunnies seem to love - but the oat itself looks like some sort of satin or silk ribbon and not grass. Is this normal? AND the bunnies don't seem too crazy about it

The strands are also almost 2 feet long too and curly like raffia. Can I give large quantities of this with the timothy hay? At some point i'm hoping they'll eat it, since they both like oats.

PS the botanical hay smells wonderful - smells like camomile tea!

It sounds like you are describing straw, which is generally used as a bedding - our rabbits munch on it and I use it for nest boxes, but they prefer hay to eat.

I've tried that too, I've tried all the Oxbow hays (except alfalfa) and I agree with you. The oat hay is not much for them. I always pick up 2 bags and since Acacia's favorite kind is botanical I always get that kind too!!! And timothy. Neither Kaysh nor Kina liked the oat hay even though it was wonderful for my allergies!! lol Kaysh eats a bag of botanical in about a week or 2. !! o_O
