I am looking into a new career. I havebeen in the radio business for 12 years...GEEZ! That seemslike a long time! I love animals so much and I have beenconsidering going back to school to be a vet tech. I haveeven considered starting up a pampered pet business. Cananyone else think of any wonderful jobs involving animals? Ido volunteer two days a month at the Humane Society which is great, butI need a job that pays. What about an animal trainingservice? Maybe I could train animals for Hollywoodmovies....? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for reading

Hugs! Krick

I LOVE DOGGIES!! :p I should try that for starters

Do you think I would have to be highly educated to successfully run apampered pet business. Was thinking that pet owners would bemore likely to use my service if I was very educated in ALL animals...?

Kricket Hon alittle knowledge about all animalsis better than a lot ofknowledge about a few !,Ido have a suggestiontho howaboutPet Sitter ,the owners contact youand then you gototheir homes once or twicea day tocheck on theanimals refill water and foodas necessary let them out topotty bring them in and yourdone this averages per person70.00 per week 3 or 4customers will gain you 280.00 per week . somethingto concider .

So you worked in radio for 12 years. From my ownpast experience in the business(12 years) you already have 12 yearsexperience in working with animals.

MUAHAHAHAHAHA!! You are SO right,Mambo! :p All of us are beasts!!

I agree with gypsy....you could try Pet Sitting and see how you like it.

We used to have a pet sitterwatch our 2 dogs whenever we wereon vacation....it probably would have been cheaper to takethe dogs with us and put them up in a hotelfor 2 weekscompared to what I paid her! (just kidding) She wasgreat, she watched my dogs for almost 8 years. If I remembercorrectly, she charged me $40/day for both dogs which included 3 stopsper day.

Also,I just remembered this.....a friend of mine just boughtinto a barkbusters franchise thingy, it's a dog trainingschool. I don't know much about it, you could look onbarkbusters.com and get more info. They are making quite abit of money already.

Good luck!

Some things to consider - Taxes. Besure to keep good records. Then you can have a smallaccounting firm make sure you pay suficent business taxes. You might not have to worry about taxes if you only make 'X' amount ofmoney at your business.

Legal Stuff- Will you be subject to inspections? Need aliscence? Zoning laws? You can contact your localAG extension office, DNR, country clerk to get info on any rules andregulations in opening an animal-based business. Sometimestheir are legal loopholes so certain things don't have to be soregulated.

:purplepansy:Just do some reasearch. I'm sure you will begood at whatever you choose. I'm looking into doingsomething animal related from my home myself as a partial income source.

Kricket,

I sold cars for eight years up her in Tempe. (I'm still in theindustry, but no longer in sales...) Anyway, years ago, I sold a oneton to a woman in Tucson, who has a mobile grooming service. I'm notentirely certain as to the tyoe of animals she groomed, but I do knowthat she seemed to do quite well for herself.

I also had the priviledge of visiting her home, where she had a bunchof huge dogs (I can't remember if they were Bouviers or Great Danes). She also had a number of rescued horses. Oh, how I envied her life!!!It just seemed so simple and yet so rewarding!
