Are corn grits the same as corn meal? I want totry a new recipe and it calls for corn grits. Not quite sure if they'rethe same thing though.

What'cha makin,Steph???

Corn meal is yellow, and it's like palenta. When they frycatfish, they fry it in corn meal. Palenta is the Italianversion of corn meal.

Grits are white and they'relikethe southern versionof corn meal. They're similar, but not the same.

If you're going to fry something, you can use corn meal, but not grits.

It's a Pork and Black Bean Stew. Without writingout the whole thing, I'll tell you what the ingredients are. It's a newrecipe I'm going to try out tomorrow, but have never ever seen corngrits available up here. Not that I've really looked, mind you.

Onion, garlic, pork loin, chili powder, cumin, ground cinnamon, jalapeno pepper, black beans, corn grits, fresh cilantro and limejuice.

Would regular corn meal work you think? The last instruction is "Stirin the grits and cook until thickened and intense, about 15 moreminutes, stirring often to prevent sticking."

It sounds very yummy and is a pretty balanced meal. My diet has been working, this is a recipe from that cookbook.

Sounds Great! Wish you lived closer to me.

Corn meal will work fine! Go with it.

Will do then. Thanks. I figured it'd be ok, but wanted someone else's opinion.

I'll let you know how it is and if it's decent, will send you therecipe. :) I'm actually really liking this cookbook, there are somegems in here!

What time is dinner?? Sounds yummie!!

I'm thinking corn meal would be a good substitute. Besides recipes for cookin are more like guidelines.

Unlike baking..which is like chemistry.

BTW... anyone else an Emril fan?

:~) Jim

I like Emeril. He's entertaining, his bands are good, and I like his ideas. I like Rachel Ray too.

Really enjoying the "Tailgating Cookoffs" this week.

I'll let you guys know how the meal turned out.It sounds like one of those recipes that is a win-win situation. Imean, the list of ingredients sounds killer and I love anything withblack beans.

Too funny!!!

I was just thinking about the way he bites the pepper and then healmost cracks up.

Hahaha, I know, I love that part. I guess he doesn't even like peppers (from what an old coworker told me).

Ok, I'm in the middle of cooking this meal and so far it smells sooooogood. I was all sorts of skeptical about the cinnamon, but all I cansay is wow. My husband and I are debating having it with rice, but Ihave a feeling it's a meal on its own and will be filling enough withall the black beans. It called for 15 oz. but I put in a 19oz cans. Asyou said Jim, it's just a guideline.

Cut the Small Talk.

Give me yourrecipes.
