Just finished tonight's fight with Bruch's Gminor Violin Concerto. It's not half as hard as Mendelssohn's E minorconcerto, but my fingers are still tied in knots (excuse any typos,therefore....)

I miss the luxury of weekly lessons in college....now I have to figure it out all by myself....:(

Orchestra gigs and teachingjust aren't the same challenge assolo repertoire. I have to motivate myself to keep up on the "standardrep" (the most popular of the violin concertos). It's weird being aprofessional after all these years of being a student. Actually, it's alot easier! That's why I need a bit of a kick to challenge myselfregularly.

sigh....I'm feeling downright retrospective tonight!lol;)Lessons and performances are the only things Imiss about college.

P.S. If anyone's looking for great music, listen to the Bruch and Mendelssohn concertos!!

The best student I ever had the pleasure ofworking with is in the process of becoming a concert pianist, in recordtime, I might add! He completed his four year course of studyat Westminster College, at Princeton University in three years, aftergraduating high school in a three year period, as well.

He, and we, thoroughly enjoyed his performances on our old, threadbarepiano that once belonged to my deceased mother-in-law. Idon't know classical music, but I do know something beautiful when Ihear it.

He will be visiting us next week, but, alas, the old piano has departedfor a new home in Nashville, TN with our son, daughter-in-law, andgrandchildren. We will only be able to enjoy his, and hisfiancee's company(equally talented) and not their music.

You deserve to write well,if you are a virtuosoviolinist! I am continually being impressed by your veryspecial talents and abilities! You honor us with yourpresence here.

Wow, I'm blushing, Buck! :p

Thanks!

I thought, in my student days, that if I ever reached this point Iwould have "arrived"--but now that I'm here, I find more work to bedone. It's never "good enough"!! :?

I have an enormous respect for pianists, as I work with them regularly. My piano skills are virtually non-existent, and I can only watch inawe.:DToo bad your piano is gone and you can't enjoy yourstudent's music this time! You'll have to wait until he's on the grandtour and is featured on PBS, eh?
