I have usually several different bags of hay on the go to feed and bed the rabbits. I use the better (orchard and timothy) for feeding) and more generous amounts of value pack hay for bedding. Recently I started on a bag that contained rather long strands of hay but all yellowish, no green in it at all.I was going to use it for bedding mainly but I discovered that the rabbits eat loads of it. They seem to prefer it almost over the timothy. I always thought the greener the grass the yummier it must be but apparently they love the straw coloured stuff. What could make it so delicious to them. I also noticed that my bunnies don't seem to like the short strands of any hay. Why on earth should that make a difference, I would love to know how to tell good hay from bad hay by just looking at the bag.It seems to be hit and miss all the time

Yes, I was worried because the only type of hay I could find was yellow and dry, but my bun went crazy for it as soon as I put it in his hutch and he goes through it like an eating machine! I just put in a bunch, he takes the pieces he likes and I throw away the rest. I figure it's so cheap, he might as well grab his favourite bits! Who knows, maybe the long bits are just more fun to chomp? :p
