When I went and picked up my English Spots. I know he's not posed or anything, he's just a baby still but we aren't sure on his color. His father is Opal and his mother is black otter. He's got a black otter brother and a blue otter sister.

He's not completely in coat condition from the long ride from New York to Penn(7.5 hours). How do you tell the difference between Opal and Blue Otter? what should I look for.

Opal.

To check for yourself, blow on his coat and look at the rings on the hair shafts. They should look like this:

Yes I checked his fur whileI was in a traffic jam. He has the ringlet of the organish fur to the blue.

Okay so here's a second question, he's an opal. His father is an opal. I have a four Gen ped on him and there's only otter behind the opal father, how do you end up with Opal when you have Otters? there is chocolate and Lilac way back mothers side, but it all came out to otter. Then being crossed back to a black otter, also without opal in her(lilac, chocolate) and We got Opal babies. I would have thought that you'd get otter babies.

You would get both agouti and otter and possibly self. The father is opal and agouti is dominant over otter. Agouti can carry otter and self and would have too to produce otters.

Okay, I gave him a posing session. He's 9.5 weeks old. What do you other breeders think? I'm still teaching him to sit posed so I don't need my hand there. I'll probably clip the little points off his nails, they are pokey little buggers!!!
