That's the "most humane" way they can controlthe rabbit population? By releasing a disease that makes themhemorrhage to death?

Surely, there's a better way.

OMG, Laura I have to agree with you. VHD is aterrible disease. I believe it is similar to what Ebola would be to us(sorry if I'm wrong ). How can that be humane. years ago they releasedmyxamatosis in the UK as a way of controlling rabbits, and look howthat is still affecting the rabbit population here, with a slow, horrible death!

I'm a person who's very wary aboutvaccinations anyway, and to know that a disease was introduced thatrequired my rabbits be vaccinated or die?!

:growl:

You're right, Jan, Ebola is a hemorrhagic disease, and a terrible way to die :(

It said it was safe for other animals and humans, but it sounds very dangerous to me.

Ijust don't understand why they can't do somethingelse. They could trap them and euthanize them if it's thatbad.

This is NOT humane AT ALL.

This is one of those "damned if I do, damned ifI don't" situations. As in Australia, the buns in NZ havetaken over the country-side and are threatening the natural/nativeanimals and vegetation. There are no natural predators tokeep their numbers down.
This is their last "course of action" after trying, all else.Unfortunately, as in Australia, some of the buns will "pull through"and survive. Then, they will breed new generations that willbe immune to the virus. It's a vicious circle. Alessen that we should all learn from........Never release your animals,no matter what. Charlotte
