Hi there!

I am a new bunny owner and new to the board. I just got 2 baby bunnies(named Barley and Hops)from a shelter here in Virginia. Ihaven't had a bunny since I was younger, but they are the sweetestlittle things. My 2 sons absolutely adore them.

Could anyone help me identify the breed of the bunnies? They aresiblings. I am planning on having them neutered/spayed as soon as theyare old enough.

Also, I am keeping them mostly indoors. They will be house bunnies butI have never done this before. Does anyone have any good tips? Theyhave a litter box (which they use, but they also go all over theircage).

Thanks! :)

Heather

One more pic of Barley and Hops! (they are so sweet! i can't help it!)

Any ideas on their breed? I am just interested in knowing...thanks! ;)

  • If you are getting your rabbits fixed their potty habits willimprove afterwards.
  • Check out some of the pictures that have been posted on this site ofcages. I wish I had done that first! Now I want tocompletely re-do her cage, even though she has the run of the house.
  • Make sure you bunny proof all your electrical wires, there are lots of tips on here for what you can use.
  • Bunnies like to dig....give them cardboard boxes or old phone booksto destroy so they don't attack your carpeting.
That's all Ican think of right now, but every day is a learning experience with ourbun. The people on this forum are wonderful and havetons of great ideas and advice to share.

Welcome to the forum!

First, they are very adorable little babies. Look like little sweeties.

Also, at the top of the page in "Top Picks" is the Cheat Sheet ForRabbit Care. There is a lot of good information and links there to helpyou out.

I can't help with the breed, hopefully Pam will see and be able to tell you.

If siblings, definitely mixed breed. The one on the bottom has Palomino coloring and looks like my babies at 4 wks.

Sorry that the pic is a bit overexposed--they really were a brightrusset orange like yours. The shape of the eye and that white ringaround it is also the same.

One of the parents may have been Palomino or had some Pal blood in the line somewhere.

They are adorable!

Rose,

Oh my gosh! Your bunnies look like MINE! That is too cute! Thanks for the input...I appreciate it!

They sure are cute bunnies!! It seemsthat you've gotten good advice. No matter what, you may stillhave to deal with stray poops. My buns often miss with thepoops, but they almost always get their pees in the litter box.

Welcome to the forum Heather......:)

Barley and Hops are sweet. I have a house bunnycalled Pebbles. We keep her in a cage most of thetime. When we let her out, she gets 5 to 6 hours aday in our bunny proofed hallway.

They do look alike, don't they? I had fun comparing the pics (had forgotten how small they were once!!)

Just to warn you....Palominos are fairly large at maturity. Bub (one of those babies) is 11 mo. and weighs about 9-10 lbs.

He has grown since this was taken...

This is a recent picture.

Anyway, that may give you an idea of what yours will look like a year from now. :D

Good luck! Palominos are my favorite breed. So friendly and happy and smart and gentle....on and on....hehe

Hello and Welcome.

They are absolutely adorable. Do you know about how old theyare and how much they weigh? It would help in trying to identify theirbreed. I think they are mixed breeds. Theylook a little likethey have Netherland Dwarf in them. Pam will be able to tellyou. She isa breeder and ARBA judge. She is amazing atidetifying breeds.

I have a white Flemish named Apollo and am getting two lop mixes.

I look forward to getting to know you and your bunnies better.

Tina, funny you said that, because I initially thought thesame.....then I hunted out baby pics of mine and lo and behold! theears aren't as long as I remembered at that age!

I just thought it was funny how quickly I forgot what they looked likethen, given how much time I spent looking at all of them. :p

Heather--how big are they now, and how old? If I remember right (don'ttrust my memory!): at 3 wks. they fit in my cupped hands, and at 4 wks.they started getting leggy and overflowing my hands. Yours look about 4wks.

Oh, bringing back memories....:D
