hi all

we have 14..yes 14 beautiful dwarf lop bunnies..they are all unique and gorgeous...we originally started of with just 2 black females...then my daughter came home with 2 more little girls that someone decided they just didnt want...ok i thought 4 is not so bad...so out came the wood and tools and 2 huge triple cages were built...bunnies were neutered and live happily in pairs.

back in may we rescued a bunny from a family that really wasnt caring for her...she was in a tiny cage with no bedding etc...so we bought her home and built her a palace!....but.....just 3 weeks after having her...we found a litter of 10 babies in her cage...shock was an under statement!....the kids were delighted...we managed to find homes for 2 of the babies when they were 8 weeks old...but something stopped me from rehoming the others!

sooooo...that gave us 13 bunnies...7 more girls and a little boy...out came yet more wood and paving slabs....husband laid a huge paved area for all the cages...6 triple cages each with 2 females in and 1 double cage with the little boy.

word must of got around about our 'rabbit land' and about 6 weeks ago we came home to find a fully grown boy rabbit dumped in a box on our doorstep...well what could we do...build yet another cage lol

the garden is no longer the green haven it once was...the grass is full of holes and the shed is full of sawdust, hay and rabbit feed...the vegetable rack in the kitchen is full to bursting with carrots and brocolli....yes our bunnies seem to have a huge liking for brocolli...the more expensive the better lol...and the vet bills for neutering etc have become extremely expensive...bang goes our holidays for the next few years!!

our next door neighbours little children love to come round and play with the rabbits..they are all so friendly and tame and enjoy being petted and handled.

but our story doesnt end there....every night we go out and cover our rabbits and do our late night check...husband has to go round and say goodnight to everyone of them in turn...takes forever!!...he says they will be upset wth him if he doesnt do it!

however one evening about 4 weeks ago...my neighbour came round wth her children..we had already 'settled' the rabbits for the evening but let her take her children out to look at them...we didnt really think anything of it as her children are always playing with them...turns out they didnt shut 2 of the cages properly....in the early hours of the morning my daughter came running into our bedroom shouting that 2 rabbits were out...Clover, the rabbit that had, had the babies and Chase, the last addition to our rabbit family were quite happily munching their way through what is left of our garden!

we quickly rounded them up and thought no more about it....until 2 days ago...clover now has a litter of 7 babies...typical..out of all the rabbits....the one female we hadnt got neutered and the boy that is due to be neutered next week...it had to be those 2!!.....i was in tears when i found the babies....worried that it looked like we were being irresponsible..and worried about rehoming them....there is no way we can keep any of them...14 rabbits is enough for us!....oh but they are cute.....

we love all our bunnies and have resigned our selves to the fact that our garden will always resemble a rabbit warren, our bank balance will always be in the red, weekends will be spent cleaning cages and building more adventurous play areas for bunnies and our shopping trolley will be fit to bursting wth brocolli and carrots....but another 7....i dont think so.....or do i lol

Wow! What a story!
I appreciate the fact that you have neutered ALL of these rabbits. That is a huge feat unto itself, nevermind providing homes for everyone.

I applaud you and your family!:great: Welcome to RO!

If you were to put your location in your profile, there may be members in the area looking to add to their own rabbit herds... Also good for assistance with vet services and rabbit supplies :)

Great to have you here on RO!

Your bunny story sounds a bit like mine, lol

A bunny here, and a bunny there.

One of my adopted girls gave birth after we took her home too. Small world.
