Hello all! I recently got a male (I think) Checkered Giant (I think). Also, I'm not really too sure how old he/she is. Probably around 7 to 8 weeks.

Heh, when my boyfriend got me the rabbit (who is still nameless, due to gender confusion) I swore up and down that I wouldn't be one of those people who runs around telling everyone random facts/stories about their animal and joining forums to talk to other lovers of the type of animal... but here I am! =P

Oh, quick question: Is it safe to use newspaper on the bottom of the cage while I am still training my rabbit? I have Carefresh litter in his litterbox, but until I can see which corner he's using most frequently I just have the newspaper down.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! :)

Newspaper is safe, but it does tend to stain white rabbit's feet a bit. It goes away after awhile, but just so you know! Also, when newspaper is soiled, it tends to stink. That's just my experience. It's safe for buns, though, and cheap! :)

:hello& :welcome1to the forum! Rabbits are great animals with distinct personalities. I've got 16 and each is different. I look forward to hearing about your new life as a bunny slave (cats have staff, dogs have masters and rabbits have slaves) and be sure to start a blog in the bunny blog section.

I use kiln dried wood pellets as litter for my rabbits, it is very absorbent and controls odor pretty well. I get mine at a farm supply store, but you can also get it at places like lowes, home depot or menards,it is used in wood stoves too. Kiln dried means it has all the pine resins baked out of it and makes it safe for rabbits.

If someone would have told me several years ago, that I would have a rabbit let alone 16 I would have told them to seek mental help. Now I find myself spending a lot of time at rabbit shows, rabbit clubs and on thisforum talking about rabbits. They are addictive and if you get a rabbits trust you have really accomplished something.

Welcome again to the wonderful world of rabbits and please post some pictures.

Welcome. I hope we get to see some pictures of your bun. This is a great site to learn about being a bun mom. I owned buns for a few years before recently coming to this site. There are so many knowledgable people here I have changed almost everything I was doing because they had so many great suggestions to every problem, some things i didn't even realize were a problem until I started reading.

Ha-ha-ha.. Was you about a year ago and buns definetly get you talking about all the silly things they do... I use puppy training pads in my buns cat box with Carefresh on top and then throw hay on top of that (has worked well for me)..

Can't wait to see photos (hint-hint). Welcome and this is the BEST place to let your inner bun geek out! :)
