Hi all,

I have just got a baby mini Rex called Toby, he came from a pet shop and seemed the most freindy there. I am trying to train him to use a litter tray as he is a house rabbit but we are having difficulties. First of all he seems to poo everywhere he go's and when I hold him he wee's on me.

He has a large hutch which is kept in the dinning/kitchen area and is allowed time to raom that area along with the living area in the morning and when i arrive home from work. The first few days he was very shy as expected and now when he comes out he jumps and bucks all over. He seems to love to pee all over me whenever i pick him up and I really want to get some cuddles and love from him but don't want to have to change my jammies twice a night. I would really appreciate any help and advice any one has to offer, I have looked around the internet but most just say to get him castrated bgut he is only nine weeks old.

Thanks in advance

Amanda

Try keeping him in a smaller area, sometimes having too much space he may not be able to get back to his litter box. Another thing you could try is setting out a couple of litter boxes in the room. If there is a particular corner wherehe is going potty then place one there.

He is at the age where the hormones are kicking in and he will likely spray alot. Marking his turf, a poo here and there is also a way of letting others know this is his.

You could put a thick towel underneath him when you hold him in case he does pee. Just keep scooping up his poos and put them in a ltter box and if he pees on the floor soak it up with paper towel and put some of that in the litter box as well. It worked for one of my buns.

Good luck

Also, :helloand :welcome1to RabbitsOnline. I am glad you found the site. RO is a very active, friendly and helpful website devoted to rabbits and their slaves.

Here are some good links to areas of the site you might find interesting, the Library section, full of good reference info, Bunny Blog, where you can keep everyone up to date on your bunny and your life as a bunny slave and if you bunny would like to ask questions of other buns the Bunny Chat is the spot to be. The regional forum is a good way to find a rabbit savvy vet or to post places where you get some of your supplies for your bun etc. For the lighter side and to give you a chuckle or two stop by the go to the Let Your Hare Down section for anything but bunny's.

Here is link to the rules of the site, light reading Rabbits Online Forum Rules.

You don't have to say what city your in but if you could update your profile withthe areayour in, may be likeNorth west Ohio, Canada, UK etc, that would help others provide you with info that may help you and your bunny.

If you would like to post pictures in your post this link How to put photo's in your posts will help explain that.

I hope I didn't overwhelm you with info. This is a wonderful site and I look forward to seeing pictures and reading some stories.

I have a mini rex too and I love them. Though I may be biased, I think they are great rabbits.

Do you have different litter in the litter box then from the rest of the caged area? If not he could be confused on where to go. Is he going in a certain place outside of his cage? If so I would put a litter box there. If you don't want a litter box there I would put something there so he can't even get to that area.

You can put hay in the litter box. That seems to help. Only problem with that is they will usually think that where ever you have hay, it is okay to go there. So if you have hay in another spot of the cage, he will probably go there too.

It takes sometime to train and your little one is still young. I would keep with it and hopefully he will get it. If you are afraid of him going on you, I would just get on the floor with him to spend time.

Welcome to the forum and I hope to see you around here posting! We also love bunny pictures!!!!

Everything everyone said is on the right track.

Isolate your new rabbit to a smaller area or cage, only with litter in it.

Rabbits should naturally select a corner to wee in.

After a while, remove the litter and put a tray in that corner with the wee'd on litter. Just use newspaper in the other areas. If they pee on the newspaper, rip it up and put it into the tray.

If you see any poops, pick them up and put them in the tray.

After a couple weeks they'll be trained.

Thanks every one for your help.

Tonight I will section him off to a small area and keep this up until he has been trained to use his tray.

I will keep you poseted on his progress
