After a long time of planning to add rabbits to our homestead, I am finally making it happen.

I have added a fully insulated extension (separate room) to our pole barn for rabbits and eventually chickens. The room is 12x40 with insulated walls and ceiling. I have two two large windows for light and ventilation and a 12" through-wall fan at the ceiling to pull air through. Dirt floors.

The plan is to have rabbits in one half of the room and eventually chickens in the other half.

I am mostly complete with building out my first three cage hutch (each cage is 24x30). This will be the start for a buck and two doe. I will be building further cages/hutches as needed. Water bottles, crocks and hay racks on order.

I plan to raise rabbits for meat, though not in a giant hurry for it or plan to go too big. we'll see.... :)

I have been watching our local craigslist for rabbits (New Zealand I think is what I will be going for) and will be trying to acquire some here in a week or two once I have all the rest ready to go.

Thanks very much for then many great articles which have offered a lot of great information.

At least you have no problem bonding them or dealing with their anxiety
