I discovered all my Lionheads have matted fur around the rump above the tail. The really fluffy one even have matted fur balls under the chin and area between legs and body. It's a solid mass all around the rump about 1"X3". I've been trying several days to pull and cut it out. It seems to have some bare skin around the matt. Will the matt eventually work itself loose from the skin? He seems pretty cool about my fur pulling. I'm just cutting a littleeach day so I don't get tired and cut skin. I'm also staying away from the testicles cause I don't want to scratch them. It's hard grooming the belly cause it's not much room between the 4 legs.

I like to use a seam ripper (sewing tool) and get right between the skin and the mat and gently pull away from the skin and the seam rippers cut the mat apart and then i will finger it apart more and then get a fine tooth comb and comb out the rest. It helps to same some of the fur without causing them to go bald.

Bruce used to work with his fingers to tease the matts apart then brush out afterwards. But I dontthink we ever had anything that severe
