It was almost ten years ago that our last domestic bunny, a dwarf mini-Rex named Silver Moon passed away from a heart attack during a lightening storm when our swimming pool was hit.

Recently events unfolded that brought us back to the rabbit world. Three weeks ago, two wild baby rabbits were brought to us by the neighbor children after their dog found them. They were less than 24 hours old. After 19 days, against the odds they were thriving until the family cat broke into the office. While gentle with small animals, the cat wanted to see the baby bunnies and knocked the cage off of the shelf. Abbott and Costello died instantly.I couldn't look at a piece of stray hay without breaking into tears. My husband brought me to the animal shelter and said we should adopt a bunny in honor of my wild babies.

The wildlife center helping us with the bunnies was supportive and main bunny rehabber helped our family pick out a wonderful domestic bunny in Abbott and Costello's memory. Abbott and Costello will be remembered forever and our family will continue to rehab wild rabbits with the help of Clementine, our new family bunny.

We were told that Clementine is a Silver Marten/Lionhead mix (though I don't see the Lionhead very much). Although we adopted her yesterday, she will stay at the shelter for another week since she had not yet been spayed. When we pick her up she will be just about a year old so we will use that day as her birthday.

Clementine has a wonderful disposition. Even though she doesn't really know us yet, she was very comfortable in my lap and then she crawled off of my lap and into my 18 year old daughter's lap and started licking her. In addition to being a much loved part of our family, Clementine will help future orphaned baby wild bunnies by providing valuable cecotropes. I will never completely get over losing my wild babies, but with Clementine's help, hopefully I will save others and the lives of my little ones will not be in vain.

Thank you all so much for including me as a part of the Bunny Buddies community. I also joined Bunspace and made a profile page there for Clementine and a memorial page for Abbott and Costello.

Welcome to RO!
I'm sorry about your loss of your little wild babies, but congratulations on getting Clementine. Hopefully you will be able to help numerous baby bunnies in the future.

welcome! I'm so sorry for your losses, but glad that you're bringing another precious bunny into your life :)

Thank you all so much.

Here are the babies on Day 1, Day 11 in my hand, and Day 15 (after Day 15 it was hard to get them to sit still for a picture)

Here is our Clementine at the shelter when we adopted her on Sunday.

This is my daughter with Clementine in the visiting room at the shelter. Clementine climbed right up into her lap and started licking her! I think that is a very good sign.

And here is our family with Clementine that same day. We can't wait to bring her home!

Yes, I recognized the Holland Lop right away! So adorable! I do also like the Lionheads, but didn't really want a long haired bunny.

Clementine, we are told, is a Silver Marten/Lionhead mix. You can see a lot of Silver Marten but the only Lionhead you can see are a couple long tendrils of white wool on the back of her neck. You can barely see them in the picture with my daughter. lol

Welcome Really. My first bun was a silver martin. They are so sweet.
I'm sorry to hear about your babies but it sounds as though you have lots of room in you heart for more. I am currently fostering a rex and love being able to help lots of buns find their furever homes.

I am so sorry for not posting in so long! I lost my account information and couldn't remember how to get back here. Fortunately, I had a nice message in my inbox saying I had not visited in a while! I'll make sure to bookmark the page this time!

Clementine is doing well!

Clementine looks so happy with her new family.

So sorry about the little ones, they were gorgeous but I´m sure you´ll save many more.

Bet you can´t wait to take her home, she´s such a lucky bunny.

Hope to see much more about her on here.

I meant to post as soon as she got home, but, as I said, I lost the site!

Here are a few pics of her here at home. She is all settled in, after being home for six weeks and she gets along with the other animals in the house very well!

In reverse order, here is a little holiday pic!
