Hi everyone! I was referred to this page from another page that I joined on facebook. I am concerned about the rabbits at pet supplies plus because I was in there not too long ago and I noticed that the rabbits did not have any hay in their cages. I asked the worker why the rabbits did not have hay and she said that it is PSPs policy to only give the rabbits hay every 2 or 3 days. As a rabbit owner, I know that the rabbits must have hay on a daily basis. I have been emailing the corporate office and asking them to change their policy and even sent them information from rabbit.org that explains the importance of hay in a rabbits diet. The person I have been talking to is Linda Schempp and she said that this is how they have been taking care of their rabbits for years and they will not be changing their policy. I am asking for help from other rabbit lovers who will email Linda at [email protected]. Please explain to Linda that importance of rabbits getting hay on a daily basis. Please be sure to be very polite! We want her to listen to our concerns and not to write us off as "crazy rabbit people".

Next, and also important :)
I have 4 rabbits currently. My love of rabbits started with a rabbit named Bex. I adopted Bex from the humane society in 2008. After the loss of Bex I was devastated and got a rabbit tattoo on my wrist. the cruelty free logo to be exact, see caringconsumer.com for the exact bunny that I have on my wrist :)
After bex passed, I felt a huge void and wanted another rabbit, so I again visited the humane society and found Siggy-- siggy had been dumped outside and someone found him and brought him into the humane society. shortly after getting siggy, I adopted Chauncy, then peanut, and my newest addition is Cadbury :) I love my furbabies so much! I am so grateful for each one of them!

thank you again,

Hi Kristin,

Something was wonky with your profile, I fixed it and added your name while I was at it, hope that's okay! It's easy for you to delete again if its not.

I'm a very strong supporter of truly 'unlimited' hay, and I don't think most people give their rabbits enough, its hard because of the small bags sold in pet stores for high prices. Pet stores are better off buying hay cheaply by the bale, splitting it up and selling large sacks of the stuff for a lot less money than the brand names. They will turn a much larger profit for minimal labor. And then they can promote it to their customers and use hay liberally to demonstrate their recommendation. It's a win-win situation.

(I'm also an advocate for starting rabbits on a variety of foods from babyhood, it really makes for healthier pets when they go to their forever homes).

But I'm also the strongest advocate of pet stores not selling rabbits at all, frankly, and this is one of the reasons.

I'll drop a line to the manager and suggest the bale idea. The suggestion should be taken as something constructive and not critical of their care.

Thanks for caring!

And welcome to RO!

hmm..how do I post a picture? I shall try to figure it out. It took me about 20 minutes last night to try to figure out how to post my intro! lol I'll figure it out sometime today :)
Thanks

Thanks for fixing my profile...Lord only knows what I did to it last night :) I was having a rough time getting everything set up and I was in such a hurry to post about the rabbits at PSP. Thanks for taking the time to send her a letter :)
I emailed PETA about it too and they said to get as many people to email her as I can because theres nothing illegal about it, so they cannot get involved. So that's my goal, to get everyone I know to email her and let her know that I'm not going away and I'm not backing down. Thanks again!

Here's how to post from our gallery...

And here's the Photobucket way (although they're canceling accounts if you're not active for three months).

And for the record while I do think rabbits should get hay by the bale and eat a ton of it, there are so many worse out there, I'm happy those bunnies are getting hay three times a week to be honest.

I'd spend the time and energy on the many stores (and chains) that don't give them any at all.

I'm trying to get people to post things on Craigslist like warnings about buying baby rabbits too young, care sheets with pics of reasonable housing and environment enrichment as well as standard diet and health care advice. I think its a better use of our time at this time of the year.

Hey Kristin, I am glad you joined. This is a great site and I am sure you will find support here. As I told you when I recommended you join, this site is great!

I hope we get to see pictures of your rabbits. All of your babies sound adorable.

Hi Amy :)
I tried to post pictures today of the bunz but it kept saying that my pictures were too big to load, so I'm still trying to figure out how to get around that.

I'll try again later :)

Welcome to RO, Kristin!

Kudos for having the bunnies best interest at heart and being their voice. I will be sending an email listing the benefits of providing hay daily. Hopefully with enough emails and references to why it's important they will change their policy.

Kristin, like Misty posted, I use photobucket. If you want me to post some pictures for you, you can email them to me and I will post them.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The Pet Supplies Plus near by gives them hay everyday. Not the heaping handfuls I give but they do get it daily. :grumpy:

Yes i am glad you brought this issue to the forum.
I hope things get better over there I will be sending a email today.

Good work bringing this issue to light! Bunnies really appreciate humans who understand :)
Welcome to the forum!

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

If you have a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link to that will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery.
I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

Yeah, I always heard you're supposed to make sure your bunny has unlimited amounts of hay, every day..and that's what I do for my bunny. Hopefully, they'll change their policy and give the rabbits hay every day!!
