Hi everyone my name is victoria. I am from calgary, alberta CAN and i just joined this site right now. I am a new lionhead rabbit owner. I recently just got a tri-color lionhead buck from a rabbitry who i have named Mr. BunBun(i am not good at naming pets) He's a very adorable little guy but have been having a couple of problems. One is i can barely touch him without him cowarding in his hutch i've been hanging around his cage for 10-15 every couple of hour's but that hasn't really worked. Second is he maybe lonely? he was living in a heated shed with a bunch of other rabbits.

Hi Victoria, welcome to the forum My bunny's name is Smokey but i call him bunbun all the time:D.

When I first got Smokey he was terrified. He cowered and hid in his house when I was around for a couple days. I started tempting him w/ treats and giving him out time after the first couple days. It took less than a week to get him to come willing to the front of the cage and get petted, but some buns are shier and take longer.

If this is the first day or two you've had him, don't worry, they have to get used to the noises and new smells and stuff. He will learn that nothing is going to happen to him and will start to relax. You should really get some veggies and bun treats to start feeding him small amounts here and there so that he associates you with good things, and you definitely need to set up a pen or a room that he can run around in for a while each day. While he's running around you should spend some time on the floor so that he can interact with you. If you give it time and persistently try to bond with him he get comfortable with you.

Welcome to the forum. We need more people from Calgary. If you need anything, I can help. I know some great place to get rabbit stuff around Calgary, and at good prices too.
Rabbits can take time to warm up to you and their new home. Some never really like being touched. You can work with them, but it may take time. Some yummy treats can help :)
I would wait until he is neutered before considering another bunny. Ypu should take time to bond with him before getting him a friend and risking losing a peson/rabbit bond in favor of a rabbit/rabbit bond.

Give him time to adjust.

Thank you. He does seem to be quite shy but when it's just my cat's looking at him he comes right now and want's to sniff noses with him. I have had him for 5 day's so far. I've been giving him lettuce which he seem's to love but won't take it out of my hand since when i put it in his cage he put's it in his water dish then eat's it(is that normal bun behavior?) Me and my fiancee are thinking of changing our spare room into a bunny room for him but not sure what we have to do to bunny proof it since the only thing we have in their is a spare bed.

Yes we do i barely see alot of people from calgary on any forum's but it's good when you see some people from the same city. That would be cool since i only live close to a petcetra but i am starting not to like it at that pet store. He is going soon to get checked out soon. When can rabbit's usually get fixed? Yeah it would of been awhile until i got another one since i want one around his age and the person i want to get one from she's got a couple of litters and won't be ready for a couple of month's.
