Hi Everyone,

I am going to be getting my new lion head bunny tonight and it has been a really long time since I have had rabbits. I grew up with them when I was a child and ran across my new little guy a couple of days ago and just couldn't pass him up. He is a year and a half and was given to a child as a gift. The child lost interest and the bunny needed a good home so I have agreed to take him in a call him my own.

I have a couple of questions though. Since it has been so long since I have had bunnies I am just looking for advice on what to look for and what I can do to make this little guy feel comfortable. He has not been neutered and the current owner says he is sweet but does not like to be picked up.

Does anyone have free range bunnies and how to you bunny proof. I live in an apartment so I worry about him chewing on baseboards and stuff. I want to give my little guy the best life I can:)

Thanks so much for the information.

Teri

Welcome & congratulations.

Lots of people here have free-range rabbits & they often complain about holes in the couch etc. I'm personally glad my rabbit Honey is in a exercise pen, the kind made for dogs. They work well if the rabbit's not a climber. I sit & visit her inside the pen & she can't get into as much trouble. I have a plastic tarp under it & then when she started chewing it, added a layer of flattened cardboard boxes, which can be replaced as needed.

if the rabbit *is* a climber, a pen still works - you just need to put poster board around the top so they can't make it all the way over (I had a 5 month old lionhead climb out of a 48'' pen!). I took most of the furniture out of my living room and then fenced in almost the entire room with playpens (and have a gigantic tarp underneath to protect the carpet).
