I'm not new to rabbits and have been in other forums from reptiles to parrots. I thought I'd check it out here.
I had been rabbitless for a bit until about 3 months ago and said I wasn't getting another one but a craigslist ad got my attention. I went to check her out and I have never seen a rabbit so skinny and still alive. The young couple was not taking care of her! I took her to the clinic I work at.....I'm a vet tech, everyone there were just as shocked as me. She weighed 3 lbs and literally was a skeleton with hair. Within a month she had gained 2 lbs and we spayed her. I named her Tootise and she is the sweet bunny
The 1st pic is her when I 1st saved her. I must have deleted the top view pic by accident. For the top view, she was sunken in with a protruding ridge down her back that was her spine. Even her pelvis bones were visable. She currently weighs about 6.5 lbs.
She seemed prefectly happy by herself but I kept debating on gettng another since my past rabbits have always been bonded pairs. Last weekend I saw that my local humane society had a male rabbit that they recently got neutered. So, I loaded up Tootsie and we went to see him.....he came home with us. I named him Cinna-Bun. They had picked him up at an apartment complex where someone turned him loose. They said he was a rex but he's not. He may be a rex mix but doesn't have the rex hair. I wasn't concerned by that b/c he was cute and Tootsie liked him.
They have their own bunny proof room and on my off days, weekends and my hubby's off day, they get run of the house when our parrots have "out time". I have throw rugs we lay out for them. Cinna-Bun has already learned the routine. When we start putting parrots back in the cages, he follows Tootsie back to their room.
