So I work with a Ferret Rescue, own dogs and cats and even a Ball Python...and now a bunny. Every Sunday myself and another volunteer go to a massive flea market to find out if folks are trying to sell ferrets. Well today we found a couple of kiddos that needed help. A small bunny with a huge open and infected gash on one side and a bald guinea pig. I was put in charge of the bunny as my home can keep the predators away from the pray. If we housed him at the shelter I would have had to call him Lunch.

Anyway I have no idea what I am doing with a bunny. I have him set up in a two level Ferret Nation cage, cleaned the wound and put an animal safe iodine solution on it, have him fed the appropriate food (checked with the shelter on that) and have a fan set up on the cage to keep him cool...

So how on earth do I know if what he does is normal? He has a vet appointment later this week..er maybe its a she? Anyway Bunny was named Snickers due to coloring. Dark chocolate brown upper with a light caramel under. Hopefully you guys can give me a clue x.x

Welcome! Glad you found this site. Bless your heart for taking in the bunny and caring for him.

There's lots of good information in the Library Section in "Rabbits 101" and on health, nutrition, etc. Rabbits do have very specific requirements and health considerations that are different from other small animals, cats and dogs, etc. I'm not sure how serious the gash is but it would be worth taking a look in the Library to make sure the iodine solution is the best thing for rabbits and to see if a vet trip might be needed sooner.

You might want to look in the Infirmary section for recent posts about wound care and you might also want to post a question on your bunny's wound there. I don't have experience with woulds so I can't advise you myself but lots of others here do:)

Welcome to RO!

I agree, the library section is great for answering your questions. Bless you for taking in this porr bunny. I hope Snickers recovers quickly.
