Hi everyone :)

This is my first post here.. I picked up two rabbits today, they are rescues.. The person I got them from is sure that both of them are males but I will be checking in a day or two myself..

The bunnies are 6-7 weeks old, one is gray and one is grayish brown .. Both their ears are up normally but while resting their ears are down...Can anyone tell me what type of rabbits are these?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome

The bunny with the big ears looks to me like it could maybe be a flemish..i could be wrong though..the other little one i have no idea...they are both very cute though.

Thanks for the warm welcome :).. Both of them have big ears..BTW their ears keep moving, for a while they are flat down and for a while they are erect.. It's very confusing and scary, I keep feeling like I have broken their ears some how but then I realize that they are making their ears flat themselves!!

here are some more pics...

Awwwe they are very cute. I don't kknow about breeds, usually it's easier to tell when they get a bit older and then its helpful to know how much they weigh. When they're older you can ask in the rabbitary section, you should get some better replies there.

But for now... I think you need to come up with some names! Maybe gender neutural names... I think the grey one looks like an Ollie to me. and the brown one, Chester. just some suggestions to get you started :)

Thank you :)

Chester is a great name, I would prefer not to opt for the name Ollie, since I know an annoying person named Ollie... I was thinking that the gray one looks like a Jim from "According to Jim" since all this guy likes doing is eating..

As you suggested, I shall wait for a while to post in the rabbitary section.

haha fair enough, don't want to give your cute new bunny the same name as someone who is annoying. I totally understand.

you might want to know for sure that he is a boy before you get attached to the name Jim... I guess it could change to Jen if he turns out to be a she.

Totally up to you what names you decide on :)

I like your idea, I can name the gray one Jim and if the rabbit turns out to be a female then I can switch to Jen...And for Chester, I can switch to Crystal in case the rabbit is actually a female .. ;)

Edit : I just noticed that your screen name is Crystal, I hope it's fine with you if I keep Crystal as the "female" name :)

Sorry for the double post, I cant edit the previous post .. Both of them look like the Silver Fox breed to me, since they have a lot of silvering in their coat.. Also the rabbits sold in that store are usually picked up for their meat and I believe that the Silver Fox breed is used for eating, how ever mean that really is.. :(

haha no, I don't mind at all. that's okay, I would be honoured to share my name with that gorgeous bunny.

I thought Chester could still pass as a girl's name, much more than Jim anyway :)

When I was naming Lulu, I would say the names I was trying out a few times out loud to her... I found it really helped. cos some names just didn't seem to suit her! And now people tell me Lulu is the perfect name for her.

Thanks! :)

I always thought that Chester is a male's name but I shall cross that bridge when I come to it.. Lulu is a very nice name! Jim responds to pretty boy, I have no clue why:? ...

I removed Jim out for a while yesterday, he did not care a bit that he was out of his safe place, he happily roamed around on my bed..I removed Chester out of his cage 30 min ago, I left him on the floor and sat next to him.. I was so shocked when he climbed into my lap and licked me!! It was especially shocking since the seller had kept these rabbits very badly and they have had little to no human contact..

Yes Chester is a male's name, but it's not as masculine as something like Toby or Bruce or Jim so I don't think it would be too bad. That's my opinion anyway! Depends what you think of it really.

Awwwe sounds like they both like you and are pretty comfortable with you already, especially to climb onto your lap and lick you. And you only got them today?

I got them on Friday evening at 7 pm, its Saturday at 1:30 pm now.. I am super thrilled that they have accepted me but I wont rush it, I dont want to stress them out :)

Jim's back legs look a little weak to me, Chester has no problem hopping on the floor but Jim finds it hard to hop around without slipping... I will have to find a competent vet on Monday who knows how to diagnose rabbits..

Oh sorry, the time difference makes it confusing! I am in Australia :)

What kind of flooring are they on? A lot of rabbits find it hard to hop on wooden floors... If you have wood floors try putting down a blanket or towel and see if that helps.

That's fine :)

Our flooring is made of smooth marble. Jim keeps slipping and he lies down with his feet behind him but Chester hops normally and sits normally...

I shall do as you suggested, hopefully Jim doesnt have a problem ..

I imagine marble could be slippery for fluffy bunny feet. Their feet are only fur, they don't have the grippy parts like dogs or cats. My rabbits won't go on the wood floors at all.

The way they lie doesn't necessarily indicate any problems... some bunnies just lie and sit different ways. If you want you could post some pictures about what you're talking about...

Yeah try putting down something where they can have better grip, I think that will really help. Let me know how it goes :)

I put Jim in his cage and he is hopping around fine.. He even climbed the ramp and came back down..

Crystal, thanks for helping, you really are the best :)

Some more pics, this is in the animal room, with smooth mosiac flooring :)

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.
