just dropping to say hi. I am mom to 4 kids and we just love rabbits and guinea pigs (Aka "cavies). We have 3 rabbits and 2 cavies.
It started 3 years ago when I bought my daughter a "craigs list" bunny for her 10th birthday. Thumper is now a 6 year old large lop of some kind. I am thinking a french lop mix in the agouti color pattern. While she is getting to be a grumpy old girl, she is still a snuggle bunny and insists on being petted and is a good snuggler. She is so tolerant for my daughter's whims and has really bonded to her. After enjoying Miss Thumper for 3 years, we decided to get into 4H and the rabbit project. We look forward to this adventure. This led to a search for a breed we wanted and a trip to a local ARBA rabbit show.
As of this week, we ended up not with one more rabbit, but two!
My daughter brought home a beautiful 4 month old castor coated mini rex doe named SunDancer. She came complete with a pedigree and a princess demeanor. (and an ear tatoo.)
Not to be outdone, I was shopping for proper cages at a local pet store before the trip to the rabbit show. Let's just say I am a sucker for a pretty baby with large sad eyes that said "please take me home." It didnt help that the pet store people said I could have him for free with the purchase of the cage.
That is how I ended up with Black Jack, the jet black mini rex! "BJ" as I now call him, didnt come with a pedigree, but he sure has spunk and an adventurous spirit! BJ loves to romp around the park on his leash to find adventures. He lets me know he is NOT a dog, and doesn't allow me to take the lead! We go were HE wants to go! He is not a big cuddler, though he seems to be ok with a nice pat here and there. But he is curious and ready to play.
SunDancer is quite the little lady and is very demure. That being said, she has no problem putting the other rabbits in their place. She is also curious, cuddly, and loves to nest in blankets. Her brother and litter mate "Pepsi" went home with my daughters BFF and they will be doing the rabbit project together. Pepsi (and yes that is his pedigree name) comes over and visits his sister and the other bunnies.
And just so they don't feel left out, my son has two adorable guinea pigs. "Mr Squeekies" is an assybian with a bad hair day and lives up to his name. He is VERY talkative and lets you know how he feels. He is the perfect match for my talkative son. Then last, but not least, is "brownie." He is our disabled guinea pig, but we didnt realize this until I brought him home from the show. He still gets around inspite of two bum hind legs. He is very soft and shy, but is starting to warm up to us.
Thanks for listening to a bit of ramble. Hope to have lots of fun convos here.
