I'm glad to have found this site! My husband brought home a very neglected bunny on Monday. He is said to be 10+ years old. He was living in a small outdoor hutch and it's cold here! He was being bed on straw and only fed pellets, no veggies or hay.

He brought him him with him with permission of course and we immediately made him a large c&c cage and gave him unlimited access to hay and i'm introducing veggies slowly.

I'm completely new to rabbits. I've been involved in guinea pig rescue for a while now and currently have 18! All are very well taken care of and spoiled.

I'm looking to learn everything I need to know about proper rabbit care and i'm also looking for a female companion for my fella.

I can't wait to get to know everyone!

Welcome!
Thats so great about taking in the neglected bun!

Have you thought of a name for him yet?
Is he neutered?

This is the best site for finding out how to care for bunnies in the best way possible. Why not check out the library Bunny 101 care things their really great :p

Hi and welcome to RO!

Im from Michigan as well- near Flint. We have lots of great info here. We're so glad to have you. Feel free to ask lots of questions!

Haley

Becca: The name he came to us with is "Bugs" It's not very original but we'll probably keep it since he has had it for so long. He is not neutered, but being how old he is I don't think I would want to put him through that. I will check that out thank you very much!

Haley: Thank you! We're not too far. Do you know any good places to adopt? She doesn't have to be spayed, I can have it done at my vet.

Yes, I do! I volunteer with Midwest Rabbit Rescue in Plymouth, MI (www.rabbitrr.org). They do charge an adoption fee but the spay price is included.

Also, if youre going to try to find him a mate its best to find one thats already spayed if youre not going to neuter him- that way they can meet first without the fear of an unwanted pregnancy. Bunnies are very territorial and wont bond with just any bunny so its best to do some dates first to be sure they will get along :) Let me know if you need any help!

You a jewel for doing this for the little guy. Everyone here is really friendly and informative. I'm sure you'll get quite alot of help and ideas. :)

Another Hello from the Flint-area of Michigan! That's so awesome of you to take in this bunny and this site is great for information.

Midwest Rabbit Rescue is the place to go as Haley mentioned. They are very informative andyou can do bunny dates to see who will work for your guy.

Also, I just remembered, theres a beautiful black and white very very sweet lop at a campground around here who needs a home. I think he's around 3 years old. I dont know if he would bond with another male but he's very sweet and is in a bad situation :)

Hi Becca,

My name is Laura and I am the Shelter Manager at Midwest Rabbit Rescue in Plymouth. Haley was telling you about us and we would be happy to show you our humble shelter and let you meet our beautiful bunnies. We have approximatlee 140 in the shelter right now and we alter the bunnies before adoption so you don't have to deal with that or pay for that extra. It is included in the adoption fee.

You should go to petfinder.com and look up the zip code 48170 and that will list our bunnies first for you!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to meet up with you or just answer any questions you have about our bunnies.

Thank goodness that you and your husband have taken this little one in before the cold weather really starts. I can't imagine how hard that must be for him to live outdoors in Michigan! Congrats on your new family member!

Laura

Hi Laura,

I will look at petfinder right after I get done typing this. I would love to adopt a girl bunny from your shelter! I really want to get Bugs a friend, it might make the rest of his life a little more happy. You'll have to help me find a good match for him. He is very old and doesn't move around a lot so it would probably be best to adopt an older laid back female? You are probably about 2 hours or so away from me but I don't mind the drive at all. I just want to make this poor old guy happy since it doesn't sound like it has been up until this point.

I've seen so many improvements in him in just the past few days it's amazing. He is moving around in his cage now and will take vegetables from our hands. We just went and got him a larger litter box because what I had was too small and he seems to like to sleep in it, lol. So now he can have 1 to sleep in and one to use as a bathroom if he so chooses. He actually explored the living room for a bit yesterday also. I placed veggies in different spots of the floor so that he would have to move around to get them and sure enough he did it:)

Thanks so much to everyone here, I can't wait to get him a lady friend!

Laura,

I tried filling out the adoption application on line twice and it will not send. Should I just send all of the information in an email?

They are the perfect couple. Are they already bonded?

Dumb question but who is Bugs and who is Topanga?

Susan:)

Cool!, If you wanted to add your touch you could always add a second name on the end hehe!
