So, I am getting a new bunny soon! A show bunny. I have done my reasearch on breeds and showing, but this will be my first one so I am wondering which breed would be best to have? Here are my wants, but not all have to be met.

1. I would prefer a small or dwarf breed

2. I do not want angora hair

3. I would prefer not to have a lop

4. I want a bunny that is pretty unique, one that you wont find at the pet store

5. I want a bunny that is full of personality

Again, these are only preferences. If you praticularly favor a breed, I would like reasons. And if it ends up being large or long haired, I will defenitely accomodate to its needs. Give me some opinions! Thanks!

After reading your wants, my opinion would be to get a Britanna Petite. I've posted the thread that just popped in my head when I read your post.

Truly think it would meet all your wants, and you could truly have the experience you truly desire.

Truly unique beautiful small rabbit. Definitely never seen any of these in a pet store.

LOL I love that thread :)

Brits from experience are awesome rabbits! They are definitely very unique but you must know what you are getting into. They are hyper little rabbits BUT given enough attention they can make WONDERFUL bunnies that love just like any other. They have a nasty reputation but you could never tell from my little one Rocky. I highly recommend if you get them to handle them daily especially the babies. Judges will thank you in the end and you could change the opinions of people in the show world if you have nice brits. That is what I was trying to achieve. Definitely research this breed before you get it.
Here is the breed clubs website:

Another rabbit I would suggest is the Jersey Wooly. They are a wool breed but need minimal grooming for maintenance. They are as sweet as can be and easily handled. Here's the breed clubs website:

If neither of these have your interest here is the ARBA recognized breed list. You can look among the pictures and most have the breed clubs website linked to the picture so you can learn more.

Hmmm, I'm surprised Sarah didn't bring up Tans as an option. They're definitely unique and full of personality. They aren't lap bunnies though...active, like the Brit. They aren't dwarf, but they aren't big either...grown, they weight about 5'ish pounds.

You mention that you want to show. You might check the ARBA website for rabbit shows in your area and visit one. It will also give you an idea of how popular certain breeds are in your area. I know mini Rex are very popular here, both at shows and in the pet store. I personally like Polish because they're small and laid back. But I wouldn't say they're full of personality and they aren't unique, at least not around here.

Well, I'm going to go with a Lionhead :)

They are becoming very popular so might not qualify as unique in your eyes, however they are a newer breed so all of my non bunny friends have never heard of Agnes.

They are full of personality. Agnes makes me laugh everyday.

They are long haired by the grooming requirements are no where NEAR an Angora.

They are small. About 3-3.5 lbs full grown.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with!

Whoops, I missed the showing part. Never mind....lionheads arent an established breed.:p

I have a Netherland Dwarf and a Jersey Wooly already, so I am torn between Britannia Petite and Polish!

lol check out the shows in your area. Decide if you want a popular breed or not. I'm not sure about california but Brits aren't as popular and you might be the only person with them.
Polish are a little more popular and there is a really nice breeder in california. I think her name is Kathy? Mom might know better

I have a black polish who is such a sweetie. No papers, but can understand the popularity of this little breed.

I still like the Brits. Maybe I like unique because I went for purebred Lion Heads. Not even recognized but they are such a unique little rabbit. With the mane and the short ears Neville has, looks just like a cat sometimes. Hoping some day they will, but not for a while from what I've read and heard.

Look forward to hearing what you decide.

I am going to do tons of reasearch, go to lots of shows, and get more references from the other 4-H members. I think I want a brit in either sable marten or otter. Thanx!
