Hello, we just got our first bunny Felix, my sister-in-law got him but could not keep him so she gave him to us. I don't know alot about bunnies but am trying to learn as much as I can! My main question is I am trying to let him out as much as I can but everytime he is out he poops and pees, I have been laying the potty training pads for dogs on my couch and letting him hop around there but I would like him to have some more freedom, I was reading that there is a leash that maybe we could take him for a walk if is not too cold. I have put a litter pan in his cage but he kind of just poops all over the place, any ideas? Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum. Reading the things in the library should answer many of your questions.

It might take some time to settle on a place where a litter box should go & at first he may be going "everywhere" to mark his territory. If he doesn't settle on a place soon, you'll probably have to get another box[es] & eliminate or move those he's not using.

A harness & leash work for some people & their rabbits, but rabbits probably should be only walked where you know no pesticides have been used. I find an xpen [exercise pen], works well for me, for either inside or outside use. Outside, it'd be only when you were watching every minute. I don't have a cage at all, just a carrier for trips & an xpen for the rest of the time.

Hope this helps. How old is he, what breed/weight, etc.

Thank you very much! I do have an exercise pen for my dogthat I had him in the kitchen for a little while. I am not sure how old he is, I think he weighs about 3 pounds and he is black and white. Is there any way to tell how old they are?

I really meant is he still young [under a year] or not. If so, he may be going through puberty if he's not neutered. After puberty & before old age [7+ maybe], you really can't tell.

Try putting a litter box or two in the most popular spots. They'll usually pee in a box, but the beans they produce are usually left here and there. Some bunnies are neater than others. Our first tow were Polar opposites. Bun-Bun would only go in the Hutch Pan while Stockton would leave a pile wherever he happened to be, but both only pee'd in the litter pan. Neutering usually helps too.
