Hi there! I have had an interest in bunnies for about 2-3 years, maybe? I used to have a BEAUTIFUL bunny named Muffin, but she died five days after I got her. :-( So, I know next to nothing about bunnies, and I'm saving up for one (so far i have $68.00!) and doing my research!!! I'm so excited to get my bunny, and I have a lot of questions to ask!! I'm also excited to spend time with you guys and make new friends & stuff! BTW, you can call me Waffle.~

:welcome1 Waffle!
Glad to have you join us! This is a great place to come & get questions answered & advice about bunnies. Everyone is friendly & helpful. I'm a first time bunny mom & still feel a bit new even though I am learning more & more everyday! Glad you are learning & preparing before you bring your bunny home, it will definitely be a big help for when bunny does come home! Are you adopting an older/rescue bun or are you buying from a pet store or breeder? Spaying/neutering is the biggest single expense. Also, have you found a bunny vet near you for emergencies & general bunny medical care? That is always a big concern for me having a vet I can get to for my animals & who is good/experienced with treating them. Good to know that ahead of time so that if you do need a vet you have one on the ready. Enough of my questions, its your turn! lol Glad to have you here & ask away! I probably won't be giving much advice myself but we have some great members who know their bunny stuff to help!

For a first-time owner, I would definitely recommend adopting an older, fixed rabbit from a rescue. That way you don't have to deal with the crazy bunny stupids that a lot of teenaged rabbits exhibit (excessive chewing, digging, and marking), and the rabbits also often come pre-litter box trained.

Hi and welcome. Yes, rescuing a bunny is a good idea. You'd also have the rescue people to answer questions for you and learn from, and a lot of the expenses (vaccination, sterilization) are included in the adoption fee so you wouldn't have to find more money for that. Keep reading, there's a lot to learn.... I've been haunting the forum and asking so many questions since I recently adopted my first rabbits. The members here have been very helpful.

Thank you! I was going to purchase a rabbit from a pet store, but now, I think I'll buy one from a rescue facility. No, I haven't picked out a vet yet either!! I'll do my best to find a good one. :p

Hi Waffles! And welcome to the forum! :) Were you thinking about a male or a female? Or just looking for one that fits best with you?

Hm. I don't know. I guess either gender is fine, whatever one catches my eye. ;) Which would be better for an amateur??

Our local rabbit association says on their website that they reckon boys make the better pet. I don't know whether they are right about that.

curiouscarrot,
Well, I don't know if this applies to rabbits, but male critters tend to be better. (Although my guinea pig - Winnie - is the sweetest thing ever!!) :) So I'm probably getting a male bunny.

Awwwh!~ Smudge is the most adorable little guy that I ever saw! I'm talking to my mom about getting him now. Thank you so much!

Oh, Smudge is adorable! I hope you get him! Glad the vet info helped!

Aww Smudge is adorable! I love both my girls and my boys, and my 5 year old doe is one of the sweetest things. Olivia can get a bit grumpy at times but I don't have her spayed and she's only a year so that's probably part of it.
