I know you've heard it all before but HELP!! :biggrin:I rescued two sweat heart sisters that are named Betty and Wilma (aka poopers, I think you can figure that one out). They are approx. 9 months old. I have them living in a spare room that is carpeted and have given them 3 litter boxes. They seem to know to go pee in the boxes but poop, well the room is a free for all. I hate to think I will have to cage them but am I doing them wrong by giving them free space? Do they need the confinement to learn? Thanks for any sugestions!!!

I think you just need to put more litter boxes in there. Surround the edges of the room with them. After a week remove one. Keep doing that until you're down to 2 or 3 hopefully by then they will get the idea.

Sounds like a territory war. Bunnies do that with marking with poop. Thankfully your girls aren't using pee.

First off, are Betty and Wilma spayed? I don't think it's so much the space but of them vying to control that territory. And poop is what they use. If you get them spayed, this "poop marking" will eventually stop and you won't have this War of the Poop between your two sweethearts.

If that's the case I better get another room and split them up...I thought they were just being lazy or needed more confinement...They are not neutured (sp?) as I was hoping that I wouldn't have to cause they are both girls but what I've been reading it seems that it's healthier for them, I'll have to think on that one..

Thanks:)

For girls, definitely more healthier when you spay. Not only to stop the hormones and the poop wars, but girls unfortunately tend to develop cancer of the reproduction organs. I would definitely look into getting them spayed. Though girls go through more than boys with the surgery (basically to stop the"pee" marking)and getting back on their feet, in the long run it gives them a "step in the right direction" for a long and happy life.

The poops everywhere sounds like a dominance thing, claiming territory by leaving calling cards. Getting an exercise pen will cut down on the area they need to control.
