That is really great, but he should take more care of his dogs, like not let them run when they're sick/in heat. That's crazy. I don't really see him as an inspiration on that part :(

Dogs who run the Iditarod are probably gonna get sick. Severe temperatures, the hard work and everything included, it doesn't make them bad owners to have sick dogs.

If they're that bad they get dropped off at checkpoints. They're not forced to work if its life/death though as with anything close to the circumstances, there are casualties. The owners do the best they can. They do get treated.

Exactly.

Those dogs are probably taken better care of then you might think!

Plus, the dogs LOVE the work! I've heard that if they can't go with their "pack" they get very depressed sometimes!

Bo is right! Those dogs get so well taken care of. Friends in Alaska have ran the Iditarod and if the dogs are not taken care of properly, they can't run, and like Snowy said if they are sick or injured they get picked up. And having had a sled dog, all those dogs want is to run and be with their pack, they are bred for it and they live for it.

Wow...that's so inspirational!!

I just love hearing about sled dogs...they're such an inspiration...

They're so loved and doted upon...treated like little kings and queens, those sweeties...

Their drive and determination are so amazing!

Three cheers for Mackey! That's so awesome...
