So my Ripley has officially hit 5 1/2 mo. now. I've neverhadany of my bunnies fixed. They were all females, and though there was some occational territorial aggresion, never was a big issue. With Ripley its kinda becoming an issue and I'm worried about him spraying when he's in ones of these days.

So every time I try to stick my hand into Ripley's hutch, he begin's madly (rather excitedly lol) runnign around hishutch making hislittle 'road-runner' noise as I call it, snortingor whatever. Its a cute noiseuntil IRpley humping your arm accumpanies it. =/ silly little boy. Also, he's been spraying and seeming to lose all his habits for potty-training lately. So far he hasn't sprayed me.{thankfully} but know its probably very soon to come.

Here are a few questionsI have:

Its already cooled down where i live and sincehe'd be inside for a while to be fixed and then go back out, would this be better to wait until spring so I don't stress his systemwith temp changes? Its about in the 40's lately outside here.

Also, how much doesneutering cost? I've heard anywhere from $60-300..but for an average vet office, about how much in that range?

I know alot of timesthey'll dopre-op bloodwork (at least i've heard that). Is that cost included in the neuter cost or no?

If not, how much will that cost?

Thanks a bunch!

Well i got my female nutered a few weeeks after i got her because i bught her with her 2 brothers and they started humping her. she was already pregnant but the babies could have turned out with mental problems since they were brother and sister. for me it was quite expensive it was $320! I've never heard of pre-blood work or anything. And I would suggest to keep him in the house now if your gonna nuter him in December then slowly put him back out side in the spring if it's possible.
Hope this helps

I can help with the cost question. Now when I was looking around for prices on neuters for Harvey I got in the range of $110 to $170 at the vet clinics. This included for most a precheck up (I doubt any blood work would have been done, I never asked). The $170 was for the neuter only and probably would have been more for pain meds.

I ended up taking him to my local SPCA (which does a lot of rabbits anyway) and got him neutered for $35. This didn't include any blood work (I never did get that done) or any pain meds to take home. That I would have had to get from my vet. Hmmm I don't know how important the blood work is.

I am going to have Footfoot neutered on Thursday . The cheapest I found was $200. It could go up to 400. I was so shocked that it costs so much! I called a low cost neuter clinic, but they were fully booked for Nov and Dec. I have to call in Dec to get an appointment for Yuna in January. I couldn't wait for January for Footfoot because he is a little aggressive and aloof. He won't even let me pet him. He bites my hand most of the time.

You should only need blood work done if he's an older bunny or has a history of health problems. Generally blood work will tell you if he has any heart problems, kidney problems, or any other pre-existing conditions. For a young, healthy bunny, it's usually not an issue. Getting pain meds for afterward is advisable, as who wants their bunny to suffer?

As for price, it really is a case of calling around and finding out what the going rate in your area is. If you're low-income, try contacting your local rescue and see if they have a low-cost program for rabbits.

I know our vet does neuters for $160.

Hope that helps!

okeydokey. Maybe I'll call around to a couple different vets tomorow. I think ours is really good with bunnies, but they tend to sometimes be a bit more pricey for stuff. So I'll see. Thanks for all your quick replys! (;

Gary was just done and it was $170 including the pre-check up and pain meds for after. This is a good price for my area.

It has made such a difference! He only humped Becky once, the day he came home. No more spraying and his litter box habbits are back to 100% accurate. He is more affectionate letting us snuggle him rather than wanting to run away. It's so cute that now when I pet Becky he will run over and shove his head under my hand wanting to be petted too! :)

It really makes for a much better house bunny :)

i got mine done for 40 each but my regular vet wanted 96 for each! i thought this was abit steep as there only tiny and weigh almost nothing! that was for no pain meds or aftercare etc, i chose the cheaper vet after reading some reviews online and when i got there they was sooo friendly to me and the bunnies they loved them! will deff use them again!

SO do you all think that since he is an outdoor bunny and its like in the 40's now most days here it'd be best to wait until spring? So he's not going inside and then back out and bother his respiritory system? Or go ahead now and do it?

i suppose it all depends on what you think is going to be best for your bunny have you tried seeing what the vet thinks? do they think it will be ok or better to wait? after all there vets for a reason so they should be able to give the best advice

Yeah, I do realize that. I've handed quite a bit of money to our vet in the name of bunnies this year. If I ask, I can about guarantee they'll tell me just to have him in and that'll be that. Just curious for some other oppinoins/reasurrance on the matter before I do that.Being that he has had some runny nose/eye issues that have seemed to calm for now, Idon't want to stir anything up.
I'll call around at some point about prices and maybe ask about it at the same time. I was just curiuos if anyone had an idea about it. Usually I'm very careful about that with my bunnies.
