I have had my male bunny as a companion to my female bunny for almost 5 years now. He was neutered right before we adopted him. He was very hump-happy for the first two months due to the residual hormones, but calmed down thereafter. They have been together constantly for the last five years with no problems. Within the last two weeks, he humps my poor female bun pretty much 24/7. He is always on top of her to the point where she doesn't even try to get away anymore. He is utterly relentless in the humping. He's much larger than her and it goes on for so long that sometimes she struggles to get a good breath. I've pulled him off a few times and noticed that he had his penis out for the hump fest as well. They are both probably around 8-9 years old, so it seems a weird habit to start now especially since the last few years have been so mellow. Could this be some sort of health issue that I should be worried about or is it just a change in his behavior? We did move to a new state/house at the end of October, which may or may not be a factor. I don't want to separate them, but I really fell bad for her because the humping is constant and she hates it. Any ideas?
